1776. Even if you don't usually like musicals, it has an amazing group of actors (led by William Daniels as John Adams, Ken Howard as Thomas Jefferson, and Howard da Silva as Ben Franklin) and a damn good screenplay. It's probably not quite how things actually happened, but it's how they should have.

And I'd be remiss if I didn't mention that John Cullum as Edward Rutledge nearly steals the whole movie with his terrifying defense of slavery in "Molasses to Rum."

It probably helps in my case that it was a tradition for years for me to watch at least part of it with my mom and dad. Dad's been gone almost seven years, but I try to keep the tradition going with Mrs. Heb when we can.

The Buddy Holly Story is very underrated in the music biopic genre. Gary Busey crushes it.

Also has a very surprising appearance by Paul Mooney playing Sam Cooke.
