I ate at a French restaurant last Friday. The escargot were a little disappointing. A little small and less tender than I like.

goûter sounds suspiciously cognate to... something else.

Escargot cooked in garlic butter are great. I do my own, you buy the escargot canned and the shells separately https://www.amazon.co.uk/Sabarot-Finest-Burgundy-Snails-Shells/dp/B0771LGXDY
Cook the snails then stuff them and the garlic butter into the shells and put in the oven.

Then clean the shells and reuse them again and again.

And TFA is pretty spot on. Especially taking your time. I lived in Belgium for a while and their family Sunday dinners would start at midday and finish around nine. You'd sit at the table and they'd just bring out more and more small courses for hours.

If you're ever in New Orleans, drop into Galatoire's for the goute (shrimp remoulade, crawfish ravigote, and crab maison) and get an order of the best oysters Rockefeller in the world.

Gotta agree on not going low fat.  Fat isn't bad for you, it's actually very filling.  Sugar is what makes you fat...

In France, having a mistress is tolerated by some wives.

That's been pretty easy to do walking around Paris over the past week, even including using the Metro a ton (6-8 miles a day).

/ate at a friend's relative's Greek restaurant last night.

we rarely had a day under 25,000 steps in Paris last year. A couple days were over 25k. We are fairly well but both lost a few pounds.    Vehicle traffic is also way less than it used to be and has been made much more pedestrian friendly. Enjoy!

Yeah, we've been over here several times before but this time it was a London/Paris combo trip with our kids (7 & 10) and a friend of mine and his family (kids also 7 & 10). Definitely a challenge herding a group of 8 around but the kids did really well with it. Heading home tonight, and I'm gonna miss it, but also looking forward to sleeping in my own bed again.
