Mail seems to be on time again. How did they fix all the problems they had a few years ago?

I bought a bunch of Forever stamps before the previous price increase.   So I can be doubly smug, saving my nickel every time I mail a letter.   Which is like once every 2-3 months these days.

//my Forever stamps may literally be forever.   For me, anyway.

I think (Im totally guessing) that I mail about 3 things a year, and two are boxes that need custom postage feom the counter at the post office. So, Just one stamped letter a year.

I forgot how much a postage increase got everyone upset. But it will be a bargain once Bill Gates starts charging for email.

It only seems that way. It's called confirmation bias.

I mail stuff so rarely, I just want an online form where I pay $2 or whatever, it provides a pdf I can print on the envelope and be done with it.

Well one of the biggest things Dejoy wanted to do (and did) was push the guarantees for mail back a little bit (due to staffing shortages, cost savings, and many other things) so that more things would arrive on time with the new times rather than have wildly inconsistent and not on-time times like we had before.  The far left lost their shiat over it (why, I have no idea).

On the other hand, I had an invitation sent to me in early May (the time stamp on the letter said May 4th).  I did not get it until May 25th (4 days before the event!), literally on the dot 3 weeks later.  So who knows.

I guess I'll have to drop another pen pal from my list in order to make ends meet.

Agreed - let me print a QR code that goes on the envelope with the exact address, return, confirmed postage encoded, and be done with it.

Of course, then you run into the mass of actual adults who don't own a printer... of even worse, still have ink jets.

Subby, you realize that Gen Mill were born in the 80s, right? Yanno, when there were rotary phones, non-graphing calculators and *GASP* only physical things to mail.

Goodness!

You can do Priority Mail & First Class package labels online. That's been a thing for at least a decade

First class letter postage is available from

Don't have 10k employees out with COVID every day anymore.  Say what you will about DeJoy but the man has created more career union positions than any PMG in the last 20 years.

"I have no idea why"
The USPS board put a slate of candidates to the white house
Trump ignored all of them and suggested DeJoy instead, the board could have ignored the white house, it did not
DeJoy did things like:
stop overtime
Not let a truck wait for a last pallet, if it leave it 8, it leaves at 8, instead of 8:02 with more mail
Removed postal sorting hardware, in a way that broke it from being re-installed if needed

And, all of this ignores his direct conflict of interests with private competitors

So yes, anyone, not just the 'far left', lost their shiat.  I work iadjacent to the postal industry, and my Trump supporting CEO still couldn't understand what DeJoy was doing, but was convinced that "the industry can talk him out of it"
Because, my boss was a member of the leopards party, and couldn't understand why they were suddenly eating his face.

I'm getting a kick as I had to stamp an envelope today for a sticker I sold online (most of the stuff I sell is bigger than what will go in an envelope)..probably the first time in 2 years I stamped something (from a book of stamps I found on the ground years ago).
