We're all going to die. I'd rather go out like this than in a pile-up on the 405 or from a heart attack while raking leaves.

I think I'd like to be trebucheted into a live volcano, but gettin' 'lanched would be pretty cool too.

As I was reading that, I was wondering how long it would be until some scientists got charged with murder.

And there it is at the end of the article:

"As in other cases of disasters amid nature in Italy, prosecutors opened an investigation to see if there was any indication of possible wrongdoing linked to the avalanche. "

Was there last month hiking nearby. Incredibly beautiful area but colder than I expected. Got nervous when small rocks started rolling off the nearby peaks and crossing our hiking trail. Nowhere to go if bigger ones start tumbling.

Everything is an Agatha Christie style murder mystery to these chuckle heads. Someone willed it to happen. Voodoo. Or maybe there was an American that survived. There's your suspect.

This is a picture I took last month looking south towards Marmolada from a nearby highway. The glacier that collapsed is probably the white triangle in the picture center closest to the summit. Throughout the region there are trails around the bases of the summits that cross the sloped fields of scree and snow. Great  and beautiful hiking but don't trust the AllTrails app whatever you do.

The trails are mostly wide and level until you get to the sloped scree sections. Still, not a hard hike except when you get to the sections still covered with snow.

No--I'm saying the terrain looks unsafe from a landslide/avalanche perspective.  A good trail in dangerous territory is still dangerous.
