Gas stations make a few cents a gallon profits. Refineries make 45 to 60 cents a gallon profit.

That's fact.

We haven't built a new refinery in 45 years to expand capacity. The Biden administration recently denied approval for expanding refineries.

That's a fact.

Stop dumping on the guy who knows business, and start holding the moron in the White House to task.

You aren't telling the whole story.   They just closed a refinery in Louisiana, with no plans to replace it.  The remaining refineries are NOT running at full capacity.

The last time that oil prices were the same as now, the price of gasoline was not as high.  So yes, much of it can be blamed on global disruptions to oil, but not all of it.

Also, I partially blame people who buy vehicles with low fuel efficiency during times of low gasoline prices but who cannot afford the wild swings that happen every so often.  This isn't the first time prices have been over $5/gal in my state, and I doubt it will be the last.  I sure as fark had that in mind the last time I bought a vehicle, and it will be again when I buy my next car.

Why would anyone buy a low fuel efficiency vehicle, ever?

Why would anyone sell, or even design, a low fuel efficiency vehicle?

The whole concept low fuel efficiency vehicle is working againt the owner's self-interest. At all times.

I've been advocating here for the government, federal and the states, to jack up the fuel tax. Raise the price of gasoline to be no less than $10/gal after all's said and done, even in the middle of Bumfook America. For wealthier places like CA or NYS, bump it up to $15/gal. Make it hurt.

Then, offer subsidies and incentives to trade in the vehicle for EVs. Use the tax revenue generated by this raise to pay for the subsidies. Except, no trade-ins for big trucks. You asshole own that. You can pay the $15/gal for your 10mpg F-350 truck for the rest of your life.

Oh, I'm sure if he approved building a refinery, it'll be done in the next 6 months. It's the refiners that don't want to do it because they know being the bottleneck pays well.

Some are. There are lots of people who do bad things for money.
And their profits are bad.
Wealth, as an abstract concept, doesn't exist independent of morality - and neither of profits.
Of course, no one is saying that any or all profits are bad - that would be the Fark Strawman talking.

FTFT: 'My message to the companies running gas stations and setting prices at the pump is simple:...'

Well.. if he actually means the oil companies he's doing a complete shiate job of doing so. Maybe he should just say oil companies not companies running gas stations which ARENT THE SAME THING.

Capitolism is designed to function with a 10% profit margin anything more and your introducing ineffiency into the system. Normally you can ensure low profit margins by competition, but we have the industry concentrated into a handful of companies which have zero reason to compete with each other and result in lower profit margins.
