Dr. Who after previously jumping a shark now intends to jump two sharks using a wheelchair. The show just needs to stop.

I'll withhold judgment until I see how Davis treats Chibnall's mess. I liked Jodi but aside for an episode or even a scene here and there her run had some bad writing, to put it nicely.

So the TARDIS still has a wonky navigation system and malfunctioning camouflage mode, but at least it's ADA compliant.

Sure, you can get in and out of the TARDIS, but are most alien worlds or historic locations known for being particularly accessible?

If you accept Davros and the Daleks as a wheelchair users then you can argue the show was years ahead of its time in having differently abled characters.

/Of course the Doctor did try to kill them again and again...

I could have sworn that Tennant's TARDIS had an access ramp in the console room already.

No it wasn't, most pirate shows had differently abled individuals and the pirates didn't give them any special treatment!

Gordon Bennett: K-9 could have used that.

[Fark user image 850x425]

Loved K-9 as a kid.

The AI is still impressive, as is the laser and whatever long term power source recharges his capacitors, but compared to what humans can already do in the early 21st century... as a 51st century robot K-9's locomotion system is ridiculously retro.

Still, I wouldn't mind having one on tank treads with sufficient elevation capacity to climb stairs.  I don't know why, I don't know what I'd do with it.  Probably leave it in a corner as a show piece.   The power of nostalgia, I guess.

If Eccleston, Tennant, and Smith hadn't done such great jobs, I'd kind of wish they'd stopped with Peter Davison.  Not that the other actors aren't good, but the show they were on most certainly wasn't.

"More accessible"? It's a ground level entryway and a flat walk. That's kjnd of already wheelchair accessible. I mean, there's a bit of a lip, but we're not talking like they're trying to mount a staircase just to get in the door. There might be stairs to get down to the console, but I'm pretty sure I've seen a ramp as well.

This is entirely to appear "inclusive", because people demand it even when it's already that way, so companies have to make some kind of effort.

I don't know, I think with a Black Doctor, a trans Rose, NPH playing a villain and a wheelchair accessible TARDIS, RTD might just be going all-in on trolling people who use "woke" as a pejorative.

Maybe that's it. Unfortunately, it can't mes across as pandering, but trolling would be So much better. 😁

Currently re-watchingbthebshiw. I onoy started at Matt Smith, and I'm almost to the end of Capaldi, but I'll probably go back and watch Eccleston and Tennant. It's actually interesting. Spreading rhe show out over once a week episodes, with a 3 month break is waaaaay different than binging. I am noticing so many little differences that I didn't pick up on when it was a traditional schedule.

Jesus, I can't believe it, but you came up with the most farking idiotic answer I've ever seen in Fark.

Where would you like the Hookers and Blow

As for your "insight"? It's easier to type "Dr Who" than "Doctor Who" on a mobile device, so I would like to cordially invite you to Fark off until you can at least debate at the level of that turd my dog left in the yard yesterday. Right now, you just aren't attaning that level of skill.

The ship does an entire redesign for each new doctor. Every time a ship gets a redesign in Trek, people have aneurysms.

Heaven forbid a few stairs get changed out for ramps. SO WOKE!!!1ONE! I can't imagine a world in which a ship that is bigger on the inside and outside. And can expand or collapse rooms. But ramps? RAMPS?! A step too far! Uh, lack of steps too far!

I don't remember where I read it, but the article said it was done for the return of Wilf in the 60th, as either he or his actor, Bernard Cribbins, is in a wheelchair. Anything that lets us see Wilf again is fine by me.

As someone experienced with pushing people In wheelchairs, a few tips:

It's often easier to go through doorways with a bit of a hump backwards.  The larger wheels go over easier, then you have the rider lean back so you can more easily raise the smaller front wheels to get them over.

Many wheelchairs have little posts that stick out on the back.  They're so you can put a foot on them to force them wheelchair to tip back so you can get the wheelchair over small humps.  (Although, it still helps if they lean back some)

Now, none of this is going to help someone wheeling themself around.  If they have really good balance, they might be able to lean back and raise the wheels, but I'd be worried about them going over entirely backwards

/but yay, Wilf!
