I'm eyeing the bag of Visalia onions in my fridge.  I bought them at lidl, but these things usually get bigger when you take into account the supplier may have sourced the same onions.

IRestore is saying he is worried that the onions he bought at Lidl may be also tainted with listeria because Wegmans and Lidi might use the same supplier, or didn't you get that?

Given the onions grow in ground that is used as dairy pasturage in the offseason, this is not surprising.

Many stores source onions from the same supplier?

It also looks OK in my case.  The onions have the farm listed on the bag, and it's not the same one.

Carry on.

Check your onions.

I would gladly risk listeria to have a Wegmans in CT.  All of our traditional grocery stores suck and I'm always wowed by other chains when I travel.

I told Shaws, developing a new grocery store in my town, that as the last new store in a market that just had every competitor upgrade their stores (after several mergers forced spinoffs to new chains not already in the market), they had an opportunity to do them all one better.  Instead, they chose to become the lowest common denominator, with bare concrete floors, warehouse height ceilings with buzzing ballasted lights, and a sterile interior lacking in specialty departments and prepared food options.  They closed in two years and sold out to Shop Rite.

And no one in the Capital Region of NY was affected.

I would love a Wegmans here in Wisconsin as well. I grew up in Rochester and every time I go back I wind up in a Wegmans a few times.

I have an allergy to onions. It's annoying AF having to carefully read the microscopic fine print on every food item's ingredients to make sure it doesn't contain any, which it seems 99% of the food out there does. I swear to farking god they'd even put onions into bananas if they could.

Vidalia is an appellation d'origine contrôlée, like Champagne.  To sell an onion as a Vidalia, it has to be grown in the counties directly around Vidalia GA.  That's a vanishingly small number of growers for the whole country.  No grower sells to just one store, but spreads the onions around, and supply chains often send goods to multiple stores.  So, the chance the contamination was confined to one set of stores in one state for two days is essentially zero.  You'd be a damned fool to not at lest check into how to kill listeria (heat it to higher than 150) and make sure you include that step in all dishes incorporating Vidalias for the next two weeks or so.  So, no raw Vidalia slices on your hamburgers on Monday, though caramelized onions ought to be fine.

I can't wait.

Not lidl (yet), but Publix, Sam's Club, and more. So yeah, check that bag and if it's Little Bear, toss 'em.  Onions are still cheap, y'all.

At least part of the problem is that tRump's Regressive Party cut the number of food inspectors.  There is a direct connection between death from food contamination and Republicans in power.

I did a daily symptom survey for the first 18 months of Covid for the local health system and didn't check any symptoms I assumed were due to hangover. As long as I told taste and smell and breath normal I figured it wasn't Covid.

The practice of carrying onions for consumption predates recorded history and, according to oral tradition, were to be tied to ones belt for easy retrieval and generally for evening the weight distribution considering all the other daily essentials one needs for survival, were one to be a traveling herdsman or nomad

I visited some NY friends when they lived in Pittsford and they took me to Wegmans...I'd cry tears of joy if they opened a store in North Idaho, but that seems unlikely.

From what I've heard, their service rivals that of Nordstrom's.  If you took an onion in and demanded a refund, I'm fairly sure they be happy to oblige.

Yes, people have returned single pieces of fruit and veg to Wegmans. Sometimes with a bite taken out of it, return reason being "it didn't taste right". Customers are terrible people.
