For the time being, the Supreme Court is completely ignorable.  They don't exactly have armed enforcement unless DOJ plays ball.  The more states undermine them now, the better for human rights.  That couldn't possibly backfire in the long run though. no sireee.

I like how TFA quotes this part:
No person shall [...] be subjected to any discrimination in [his or her] their civil rights by any other person or by any firm, corporation, or institution, or by the state or any agency or subdivision of the state, pursuant to law.

So, now define the rights. Because the bit quoted doesn't exactly mean anything new.

What are you talking about? The Supreme Court didn't hand down any ruling to be "enforced". They said that every state is free to make their own laws. Which some are. In agreement with, rather than defiance of, the Court.

The problem isn't that states need to "rise up" and "undermine" the Court. It's that some states are free to take away the human rights, and the Court said there's no reason why they can't.

Yeah, you're right but pro-choice states need to move quickly. I'm cynical enough to think the SCOTUS won't take a challenge regarding those.

If the potential amendment gets to the voters, it will pass unless the RepubliCONs campaign against it and the Democrats under our idiot state party chair don't campaign for it.

The anti-women movement is relying on there being more red states than blue ones. They don't care if a few blue states make abortion legal for the moment; they know when they take over the WH and Congress due to their election manipulation, they can make abortion illegal nationally, and the SC will back them up.

The real civil war will start when an election clearly went to a Democrat, but the Republican legislature says the vote was invalid and appoints the Republican as the winner. There will either be a war or the Dems will meekly accept it because it's "legal". And the US will finally end.

"Fighting back"?

Absent Roe,this is the exact sort of thing expected of certain states.  It was literally the point of Dobbs- for states to lay out their own legal framework around abortion.

And nothing New York does directly impacts another state or the federal government - so again, "Fighting back" is a bit generous vs "doing what we were supposed to and were expected to do".

Michigan is also hopefully going to have a reproductive rights amendment on the November ballot, barring the Republican legislature claiming all of the signatures are invalid as petty revenge for half of their gubernatorial candidates being disqualified for fraudulent signatures.

It took me until I was 37 years old to find my dream job.  I'm nearly 50 now and to think that I'm going to have to completely wreck my life thanks to my state government and the "supreme" court is infuriating.  Why can't these Christofascists upend their lives by taking themselves to Texas and farking off?  I'd happily live in a US without TX, but I won't live in a US without CA or NY.  If the "preems" push CA out of the union, I'd rather go with CA, thanks.  I have family there so if there's ever a hint of secession chatter, I'll be on a plane there within hours.

Yeah, this exact scenario is my biggest fear right now.  The states of MA, NY, IL, CA, etc will have to decide if they like being held captive and walked all over by the gerrymandered Republican state houses of WI or GA or FL.  I'm guessing they won't - and they absolutely should not submit to that kind of fascist political terrorism.

I would read that as being against abortion on the personal level while fighting to uphold another's right to believe differently on the societal level. Which is a perfectly reasonable stance to take.

I suspect that I'm giving them more credit than they deserve.

Make no mistake, the next steps will be to outlaw abortion federally. Well, those are the next, next, next steps. As Justice Thomas wrote in the coinciding opinion, next up is same-sex marriage, birth control and same-sex consensual sex. And while the goal is to take away these rights via the court, the real goal is to make them illegal via. Republican controlled House, Senate and presidency.

Similar situation, but with a mortgage.

I happen to be in a red-leaning swing state and don't want to give the GOP an electoral advantage by moving to a solid blue one, as one Republican lawmaker was salivating over the day after this decision.

Waitasecond, there's an asterisk at the end of "pro-choicer" and some very tiny text written at the bottom of the white block. Something about "choices."

What's with conservatives and an inability to understand the importance of readability? I also remember a major ballot initiative in my state where all the conservative yard signs were light blue-on-blue text or someshiat.

I wasn't kidding when I said June 24, 2022 was the day fascism arrived in America and they're going to find out just like the did in 1920 that you can't legislate morality. You cannot tell a person, ANY person what they can do with their own body. To eliminate birth control and gay marriage means they're trying to fulfil their fascist wish list in a frenzy and people will only put up with so many sustained assaults on their personal rights.

This is a small minority of fascists who want to tell 80% of the American population who don't want this what do do.

It will go bad very fast when it does.

Since any state has the power to apportion it's own electoral votes any way it wants, that's not going to stop Trump's plan. The Constitution delegates the power to conduct elections (or not conduct them) to the states.
There is no requirement to ever hold any popular vote on any matter.
States could legally select their Senators and Congressmen by trial by combat if they wished.
And their own legislators get to say who gets their electoral votes.
The people have no guaranteed right to vote on anything.
