From Roger Ebert's review from the 25th anniversary release: John Waters' "Pink Flamingos" has been restored for its 25th anniversary revival, and with any luck at all that means I won't have to see it again for another 25 years. If I haven't retired by then, I will.

Well....he made good on his promise.

I, for one, am glad that Waters has retained his sense of humor and not turned into some brittle old skag the way that most people do.

If you can, catch him on his next stand-up/spoken word tour.

I saw him at Johns Hopkins. He told a story about how when he was 22, he got arrested for trying to film Divine having sex with a pig on the quad, but now for the event all these years later they sent a limo to pick him up from his house.

Miss Edie, as long as there are chicken layin' and truck drivin' and my feet walkin', you can be sure that l will bring you the finest of the fine, the largest of the large and the whitest of the white. ln other words, that thin-shelled ovum of the domestic fowl will never be safe as long as there are chicken layin' and l'm alive because l am your eggman and there ain't a better one in town!

Is that even remotely enforceable?

Always finding something new about him.  I remember reading one of those throwaway type questionnaires, like "Tell us something you've never told anyone else" and he revealed that when he was younger, he killed somebody with his car.  The man stepped out in front of him, and luckily, a cop saw the whole thing.  IIRC it was when he was in his youth, wearing ragged hippie clothes and driving a beat-up old car.  Apparently the guy was a known local character that sold peanuts at an outdoor market and the whole tragic thing was an accident.

Fifty years after the release of "Pink Flamingos" and John Waters is still banned from screening the film in Hicksville, Long Island.

Hicksville?

I can't. It's too easy.

There's also a great line from Connie Marble in PF that is my mantra, "There are two kinds of people in this world, Miss Sandstone; my kind and assholes."

ah, I get that.  Memento blew my mind the first time, then the second time when i found a cut that played the movie scene by scene backwards and it still worked. that was a good 17 years ago.  Also made me spend a few days thinking about how screwed up your life would be without your short term memory!

Pi was more more weird to me than uncomfortable, except for the drill!

Ugh.  I couldn't imagine why my hometown was trending today.  Now that I know, it makes total sense.

I dont know how it got banned just in Hicksville.  We dont have a Hicksville government, we are part of the Town of Oyster Bay and Nassau County.  But no government body oversees Hicksville.  Maybe it did when the movie came out.  There might have been a mayor.  Someone should look it up.

Wanna know more...?

Billy Joel is from here, so thats good. So is Edie Falco and Lorraine Bracco. Also good.

Teresa Caputo is from here.  She is better known as the Long Island Medium.  Just.  Perfect.

Just to the south is Island Trees - known for book banning.  Levittown is also to the south - a town with a very problematic history.

East Meadow is next door. This is a place that should be known as the hometown of Dr. J but is better known as the hometown of Joel Rifkin, a serial killer who murdered 17 people.    Hicksville gave us Robert Schulman, who killed five.

I could go on all day

It's probably over "ba-ba-oo-mao-mao" which Waters said he once had to deal with the police about, due to someone filing a complaint while watching it on home video.

Can't show the scene but here's the music.

You mean the Singing Asshole?

John Waters has never revealed who The Singing Asshole was, because he said that the Singing Asshole had a career that would be threatened by that becoming public knowledge.  The only clue Waters has ever given is that he was a fairly high ranking employee at the Social Security Administration (now retired.)

Oh, it turns out I'm incorrect.  The Singing Asshole did finally take credit for the role.  He hid that it was him both for the sake of his parents and his career (computer analyst for the SSA), but once his parents died, he took credit.

I can relate in all the ways to Herzog. My sister still has pictures of my face being brighter than any central park tree when I finally asked her about her status. When you don't really care or think about things because there is no difference to you it can be easy to miss things. It's also fully possible to nearly kill your mother due to a lack of oxygen when you ask an apparently obvious question that you've missed for 10 or so years.

definitely a me thing. I get that, the drill thing in Pi was it for me. Memento had weirder effects on me due to things going on with me when I saw it (feel free to read that as stopping using drugs because yep, I was on edge).

Oddly I can watch Audition again. not sure why somethings trouble me and others don't.

But if you're sworn in on jury duty in a courthouse, sitting there next to a stranger, watching a singing asshole at 7:30 in the morning, I promise you, it is obscene.

Word.
