Today, drag kings are pushing for space in a cis male-dominated field.

Yes, the problem all along has been too many cis male-dominated drag kings.

Drag Kings are great. You kinda need lesbian accompaniment for a show, kinda like how dogs aren't allowed in some places off a leash.

Isn't Drag Kings the show on Discovery where rednecks race cars in Oklahoma or something?

Sorry, I should have mentioned I'm a cis-man beardo, which is a bit like a stray dog wandering into a Drag King show. I feel decidedly more welcome when my lesbian buddy accompanies me, has me in a leash metaphorically-speaking, and frankly I don't blame them.

All of the benefits; none of the penis.

//come to think, that's probably better from any perspective...

<that sudden realization that a bad joke about male-oriented sexism could be interpreted as anti-trans.>

Live your true life, trans folks. Never let a flag, a bad politician, or a political party ever convince you otherwise. You were born to be who you are.

I still wind up on the outside at times even from those i would be in support of.

my own reality is to reject the very notion that any human has a gender identity.
Animals without free will have a gender, an identity related to their role in the procreation of their species.
Humans have free will, so you can't assume to know that they have a gender identity role to fulfill in the first place.

It is a wrong concept to assign gender roles to humans at all in the first place, that form of categorization is only fit for the animals without the free will to choose who they are/what they are.

To accept the idea of any amount democracy at all, we must first accept the idea of our own free will to choose.
If we don't have that, then we don't need a system for us to manage civilization through our collective opinions in the first place.

The very idea of the categorization of gender behavior, is fit only for the other animals, not us.

This is actually why I enjoy Dragula. They give more opportunities for people who do drag across the gender spectrum.

Yeah, this is kind of a dumb statement from the article, because drag kings primarily entertain at lesbian-centric bars, and drag queens perform at gay(i.e. male)-centric bars. Yes, these show bars may have mixed crowds, and some of the more long-running drag queen shows even attract straight crowds, but "mixing" kings and queens never goes off quite as well as the promoters think they will.

In short, don't expect a big drag king show at the local gay bar called "Manhole" to ever really compete with a drag queen show there.

I l feel much the same way.

Sometimes it is difficult for me to feel supportive when my transgender friends embrace all the things I find most offensively ridiculous about gender stereotypes.

However, I know it isn't about me and I don't define what gender means for other people.

As long as he or she is doing what feels true to themselves, I'm there for them.

Sorry, I should have mentioned I'm a cis-man beardo, which is a bit like a stray dog wandering into a Drag King show. I feel decidedly more welcome when my lesbian buddy accompanies me, has me in a leash metaphorically-speaking, and frankly I don't blame them.

Um.

I might get some hate for this, but you owe nobody an apology for being a man, nor should anyone attempt to "leash" you metaphorically speaking just so you can feel welcome in a public space, especially as a pet.

This is the most self-abusive thing I've seen in a hot minute. You need some help.

Who's apologizing? As a man I'm intruding on that space. The polite thing is at least looking like I'm invited. It's disrespectful otherwise.

jfc... It's a public space, not a private club or someone's residence.

The polite thing is to simply be respectful while you're there, not treat yourself like a second class citizen who doesn't belong. Chances are they don't care if you're there so long as you're not acting like a bigot (which ironically... but nvm that) and if they do care you probably don't want to be around those types of people anyway.

On the other hand, we are animals and many things are coded into our DNA, which in turn, manifests itself in culture. It's not necessarily healthy to believe in fantasy.

Because you're treating yourself like a second class citizen who needs to have someone else sign on to their presence in order to belong.

This is 2022, not the 1950's. Public places aren't segregated anymore.
