It's Googles fault that Nazis search for desk ornaments?

Who else needs to search for desk ornaments. Normal people have personal stuff to display, they don't buy it.

I find it hard to believe that the supermajority of people looking for desk ornament, have Waffen SS memorabilia in mind.

And considering Nazi antisemitic imagery, I wonder if it's also the reason for so many octopus statues.

A DuckDuckGo image search also brings up Nazi memorabilia. But not quite as many as Google.

If you change a single word or add a word or even change ornament to ornaments you don't get nearly any Nazi shiat.

So what is causing it? "Desk Ornament" must be some sort of key phrase getting a lot of linking or traffic recently.

I wouldn't have thought so.

But Googles algorithm seems to indicate so. And it fits with the notion, that normal people put personal items on their desk.

I think it's a translation error or typo. "Die Skornament" in German literally translates to, "I still can't believe you noobs fell for that and have Nazi shiat in your browser history now."

2022-07-01 4:04:59 AM
I'm more interested in the phrase "desk ornament". It makes sense. I know what it means. I just don't think I've ever seen it before. "Desk toy" and specific kinds of desk ornaments, sure. "desk lamp set" "wooden car for desk" and "desk scales for lawyers" etc make sense to me. But the words "desk ornament" simply serve no purpose at all. Nobody just searches for something so personal using so broadly generic a noun (or if not personal, then it is hyperspecific to a room's decor, and requires more focused search terms).

Basically, I don't think this is anything but somebody at Google's little social experiment. Google might be looking for a kind of test case, or proof of concept, for search term ethics, and what kind of PR responses need to be generated when a search result goes viral for fascist content (and Google can see, through surveillance, what is coming in the near future).

Damn, someone has really figured out how to game the algorithm. My search language is Japanese which usually produces results very different from those of an English-language query, and I still get this stuff:

I never thought of it that way. The thing on my desk closest to a non-functional ornament is an incense burner.

And most of the sites are small obscure sites that don't show up in the regular search results. I checked the first 10 pages of results and none of these sites came up. This reeks of black hat SEO.

Well, they ARE desk ornaments. That's one hell of a Search Engine Optimization job.

Boy oh boy, someone give the Nazi Store SEO person a raise! I hope their site can handle all the traffic, wait, no I don't. I'm just looking at the technical feat here

Great job, SEO guy.

Kama Sutra desk ornaments?!?

2022-07-01 5:57:37 AM
It's weird how there is no World War II themed desk ornaments from any of the other countries involved.

A thing to remember about fascists is that there is a reason they all drive big trucks, want to openly carry rifles, and display their Nazi crap all over the place, that goes beyond them trying to insert their message.  These people want to be in control of everything around them, and have the most personal power as possible.

That means they want to have control over your body, your emotions, your safety, ext.  It's why when you are waiting to make a right turn onto a street, a guy in a big old pickup truck who wants to go left, will pull up right beside you, and move his truck just forward enough so that you can't see the incoming traffic, and then, make a right turn from the left turn lane, because he wanted to fark with you.  It's why they want to display Nazi and confederate stuff, because they know it hurts you, and they want to inflict that hurt.

It's also why they absolutely melt when you tell them to go pay taxes, or follow safety regulations, and it is why they are an absolute nightmare to employ.  Because they don't like it when they don't have the power in a relationship, be it a marriage, workplace, or as a citizen in a community.
