Don't they hang out there every year? I guess it's a surprise if you never see the news that runs every year.

You'd try to kill a shark if it came into your house. Turnabout is fair play

Those Cape Cod blue blood rich Yankee farks probably have a lot of fat on them the sharks find yummy.

There are sand bars out there with large seal populations. That's what brings the sharks.

If you've been in the ocean...you have very likely been within 300 yards of a shark and never knew because sharks attacks on people are EXTREMELY rare.

Well of course. We have way more contact with dogs, with us both being land animals and all. Duh...

Thank you. They are man-biters. They very rarely eat humans. They come over, take a nibble and spit us out. We taste terrible, apparently.

adamatari: Don't they hang out there every year? I guess it's a surprise if you never see the news that runs every year.

Yes, but;

Increased numbers of sharks in area. Although part of this is a result in increased tagging and advances in tracking.

Size of sharks much larger than typically seen in the area.

Sharks coming much closer to shoreline (where people are).

Mrs. Darch and I vacation in Provincetown every year. All the Atlantic-facing beaches have always had large signs with a menacing photo of a Great White warning beach goers to their presence. This is nothing new. Great Whites have been migrating to Cape Cod to hunt seals for millennia. So yeah, fark you fear-mongering POS Republican Post. And like a poster above mentioned- it's almost impossible to get in any further than ankle-deep as the water up there is just above farking freezing.

If you fly one of the twin-engine taxis from Hyannis to Nantucket on a sunny summer day and keep your eyes on the water, you'll get a pellucid picture of just how many large sharks are close to shore.

When I lived near Patrick Air Force base (right on the East coast of Florida) I heard the same thing from pilots flying in.

I don't know nothing about no Nova Scotia outside of what I saw on Goon and Trailer Park Boys, but as an ex youth who grew up on a barrier island on the east coast of FL I can say with absolute confidence that 1) 99.999% of the sharks within that 300 yard radius want nothing to do with us and 2) I don't sleep in the ocean

Foolproof way to see if sharks are indeed in any body of water at all.  And it is extremely both easy, AND 100 percent foolproof.

Go to the water, either the edge, or off of a boat.  Take a handful of said water, and swish it around your mouth.  Is it salty?  Yes? Congrats, there are sharks in it.  Guaranteed.

I go to Nantucket every year (my Dad and little brother still live there).  The water in August and early September isn't bad - probably 65-70 degrees on the south shore where the surf is. 5-10 degrees warmer on the shallower north beaches.

I know 70 degree water sounds cold but a 75 degree sunny day where it's humid feels like a 90 degree day in California.  Besides, you're probably working up a sweat in the ocean swimming away from all the sharks.

/I've seen a small shark swimming along the shore but that was up north at Great Point where seals hang out
//I've been bitten on the toe by a crab
///I'll knock on wood but I'll be in the ocean body surfing again this year

I love how they try to add educational tidbits.  like the part about how sharks will come in close if the water is deep enough.  Really?  they dont wade in on their tails, walk across the beach, grab a 3 year old and escape in a canoe?  Thank you for clarifying...
