Truckers don't care. There's a free bridge in NJ next to a toll one. The free bridge has a 5 ton weight limit but truckers try to take it late at night so they can skip the toll. If I'm driving on the bridge I'll stop in front of them, blocking the bridge and making them back up and take the bridge that is built to handle those loads.

The bridge in question: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lower_Trenton_Bridge

I was about to comment that I wasn't at ALL surprised to see the SWIFT logo on that truck, but this covers that better.

untoldforce: Truckers don't care

Trucker owners care* when shiat happens in spite of warning signs. So crossing a bridge with a low weight classification is only bad if it collapses when you're going across.

In this case, the guy tried crossing a small one lane bridge on a hairpin corner at the bottom of a canyon. Even if the bridge had been wider it might not have mattered, that's ultra stupid.

*well maybe not Swift but most of them

And that guy was apparently from Oregon. Nyssa is very far away from where he ended up.

Ffs he was living in LA GRANDE and didn't know where NYSSA was(or that it's farking flat farm land on the Snake)? I didn't realize it was that bad.

Death by Spaghettification: Wonder if they were avoiding weight scales

IIRC the weigh scales on US97 are several miles south of Madras (this guy was driving well northwest of Madras). And the road which bypasses them (maybe the old highway, now OR361) is a lot more drivable for a truck than the dam road.

oh no OR361 interchanges with US97 before the weigh station if going south. It's the opposite leg of OR361 (across the highway going south/east) which bypasses the weigh station, SW Culver Highway. I assume it's drivable but I've never driven on it.

Got scales on I-64 east of Richmond, Va, and Rt 60 parallels that, with truckers using it to avoid the scales.. DOT set up portable scales on Rt 60 and resolved that issue..  Troopers stop the truck, DOT brings in the scales truck, and overweight trucks get burnt heavy.. and they still try it....

Anyone who's had experience with Swift drivers, would not be surprised by this.
