The Missing Cryptoqueen podcast was fascinating. MLM madness. Poor duped people, some still likely rowing in circles on this. If this person is still alive, the money is gone, most likely floating around as a super yacht or bouncing around to "tax haven" money laundering state and then to another.

Planet Money did one too:  https://www.npr.org/2020/02/14/806137130/episode-972-the-cryptoqueen

There wasn't even a coin.  It was strictly a Ponzi.

Apparently she had a side hustle laundering money for some really really shady people who probably wanted to tie up loose ends when OneCoin scam started to crumble.
The Lady has gone the way of the Norwegian Blue.

You'd think she might spend a few hundred million to look like less of an East German Dominatrix.

Decentralized.

pacified: Decentralized.

I'll bet she got decentralized allright.

$100k to turn in someone who stole $4B? Is that a joke?

Finder's fees run around 10%. I'll bet if you offered $400M she'd turn up real fast. Possibly even alive.

Investigators say the Bulgarian-based project had no blockchain securing transactions and coins were essentially minted out of thin air.

This is the ultimate crypto currency, no government or bank can trace, tax or fee a currency that doesn't even exist. How do I invest?

WTF?! You can scam people legally with crypto, why would you make an actual ponzi scheme?

She probably has by now... if she's smart, she's unrecognizable, has a new id/passport, and the surgeon who did her make-over is dead

Investigators say the Bulgarian-based project had no blockchain securing transactions and coins were essentially minted out of thin air. Bitcoin, by contrast, is secured by a global network of miners who maintain a public ledger, or blockchain.

That's technobabble for "it's the same thing, but Bitcoin is too big to fail."

Yes it's not. I hope she is safe in criptoscamland.

They were probably using a spreadsheet. If Excel does not count as too big to fail, I don't know what does.

OneCoin.

Honestly, I'll be shocked if she's alive. Her brother was arrested, rolled, and is now in American witness protection citing extreme danger to his family.

Personal theory based on known facts: this ponzi was entirely to fund a money laundering scheme for unsavory sorts, and when the scheme started to come crashing down, she was liquidated so she couldn't name names.

Not sure why, but I'm failing to give a fark about this. If only there was something that could be done, something to, I dunno, maybe prevent scams like this, something that some entity could do to both make scamming people illegal and an enforcement mechanism so that people might be reluctant to rip other people off.

Oh well. *wanking motion*

As opposed to "minted out of the faith and confidence of idiots"?
