Now maybe the people who have not been paying attention will understand why the Republicans have been so focused on the Judiciary branch both state and federal for so long.

"(T)he expiration of Prehn's term on the DNR Board does not create a vacancy. Prehn lawfully retains his position on the DNR Board as a holdover," wrote Chief Justice Annette Ziegler for the majority. "Therefore, the Governor cannot make a provisional appointment to replace Prehn."
The court found a vacancy is only created when a person dies, resigns, or is removed for cause. "

The term ended, but since he didn't quit, he gets to keep his spot? That's bonkers. But then again, the court system in America is proving time and time again it has no bottom to the depths it will sink to support right wing idiocy.

The court found a vacancy is only created when a person dies, resigns, or is removed for cause.

So how is 'Your farking term is up, GTFO' not 'being removed for cause'?

Oh, right, because Republicans believe that they are the only legitimate rulers of the people and can never be legitimately removed from power.

Wisconsin has a long history of measures staying in power for decades and decades..

For example it was a Wisconsin Democratic Senate the crafted the anti abortion law in 1849 which is currently in effect.  Way to go Dems.

Legislation can be awkward and long lasting folks.

This reminds of the Middle Ages, when various kings realized the Pope had more power than them, so they fought wars over who can install the next Pope.

If the people vote out the politicians in power and those politicians just ignore that to stay in power the moral and rational response is to murder those politicians.

Because that's how maintain peace. By having an election and having a peaceful transfer of power to the winner. Look at the federal level where we voted for a new president and...

oh, right.

Sometimes bodies like this are weird and their enabling legislation has clauses that allow someone to continue serving past the nominal end of their term if a replacement has not been approved. I think the Federal Reserve board of governors works like this.

To preserve the illusion of democracy of course.
Machiavelli wrote a few chapters on why you keep a hollow shell of institutions around. It's just good public relations is all.

Seems like three options: resign, die, or removed for cause. Two of those need an action on the part of the person that shouldn't be there.

I would really like a better option and I'm hoping that I've missed something along the way. Because it really does seem like Republicans are done with democracy and just want to burn everything down.

If a dem controlled state supreme court did this how would MAGAts respond?

It's not just about dems not doing anything anymore. American liberals are willing to take it without a fight. I thought the RvW decision would get you guys into some real street rage. Nothing. A few skirmishes aside, hardly a peep.

That's what's frightening. What are you guys waiting for? What's it going to take?

Still too complicated. Republicans don't have beliefs about legitimacy or anything else. They hang on to power if they can because fark you we can. There's nothing deeper going on.

I suppose it'll take a mechanism for street rage to lead to results.

1. street rage
2. ???
3. rights and democracy are restored

Wasn't so much a swap of ideologies overall as one party saw the upcoming changes, and jettisoned the racists who wanted to return to slavery. The other party said, "As long as we get power we'll make a deal with anyone."

So they took in the racists and made a deal that people in their own party noted was dangerous to the country.

I mean, when Barry Goldwater tells you something is a bad idea for the party itself you might want to think twice. The .1% doesn't care, and they finance the party, so Republicans took the leap.

This comes apart now? The entire Republican Party will shatter like Corelle dishes.
