Fark Guiness. Once the records moved beyond bar trivia facts (how old is the oldest person, how tall is the tallest person, etc), it just became a farking grift. Nobody is ever going to sit around wondering who walked furthest with a guitar on their chin.

This is how we should appoint SCOTUS.

Not true.  Have you not seen the 'spurious at best' things people constantly post here?

If you pay Guinness, they will make a "record" about just about anything so you can brag on your Facebook page about it.

I bought the book in the olden days, say 1975/76. Our Internet was sketchy then.

You weren't pulling the cans hard enough.  The string needed to be tight.

They have separate categories for six string, twelve string, electric, acoustic, etc.

What's the current record for the Cheap Trick five-neck?

Better yet when they post some bullshiat link and demand you look at it to prove their baloney.

Meanwhile, plenty of Americans won't even walk 3 miles.

That edition was my intro to Guiness as well. I don't remember this specific category in TFA at the time, but was very puzzled by the 'longest time holding breath' which included a picture of a person being held on their back by a pile of weights at the bottom of a pool -- and I was absolutely horrified. I was at the 'biggest dinosaur' phase, and turned back to 'the natural world' very quickly. I was convinced from there on that people did all kinds of stupid shiat.

If you bite firmly on the strings you can walk indefinitely.   Ask Jimi.

Also, this guy can balance a coffee table on his chin while playing the funkiest shiat you ever heard....

Yep. Most links shared in online debates don't prove the poster's claim. It's called CB's Fifth Law.

Bruce Campbell.  He's the only one with a chin strong enough.

At some point, I fully expect to see a guiness world record for how many times you had to badger the guiness officials before they bothered officiating it....

I have a memory of WC Fields balancing stuff on top of a stick which was, in turn, balanced on his chin. But I can't find it.  Not a guitar, but close enough for show business.

Ah, now I remember. As soon as I hit [enter].  I've elided two memories. WC Fields used a stick in his act but he balanced it on his toe. The other balancing act -- stuff balanced on a pole which is balanced on the juggler's chin -- is in a novel by Henry Green. Maybe Green was remembering Fields.

When I saw this was from Idaho, I assumed it was this guy:  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brad_Byers

Recently, he seems to be focused on sword swallowing and inserting tools into his head.  Back in the day, we would seem him around town, doing things like balancing a bicycle on his forehead.

David Rush ... said it took him 1 hour and 7 minutes

No Rush or anything.

I was really impressed when a guy I knew balanced a pole on his chin, because it had a cat on it. There was a little platform on top and he had trained the cat to sit still on while he balanced it. The cat did some other tricks too. I had no idea you could train cats.

p.s. Not the same guy that juggled ping-pong balls with his mouth.
p.p.s. I know a disturbing number of clowns.
p.p.p.s. Was kissed by a clown once during a performance, right on the smackaroo. Need brain bleach.

Been hearing about this guy for years on the Bob & Tom show - whenever he achieves one of his very esoteric records.

It says he does this to promote STEM education... How? I mean it would make sense if the records had something to do with science or anything similar. Like, "The reason I could do this is because of this scientific principle..." or something similar.

But no, its stuff like balancing a guitar on his chin, or catching nerf balls in a laundry basket strapped to your head.

Too bad Guiness isn't awarding any more world records like what Michel Lotito is known for...

Somehow they don't think its good for peoples' health when they give out world records for things like eating a Cessna.  https://www.academyofaviation.com/please-do-not-eat-our-airplanes.html
