Matt Smith, and let him keep the role until he's old enough to be Dumbledore in the inevitable Harry Potter reboot.

Simon Pegg.  Showing Easter Eggs like the Winchester.  Maybe a stray goose.

I'm all for Idris Elba, and I think an older Bond could work, since it worked for Never Say Never Again. But Connery's old Bond still had a backstory with Connery in the role. Elba wouldn't get that opportunity. And age is a factor now for considering Elba, since I'm sure the Bond producers are planning for the next decade's worth of films. Nobody wants a new James Bond already worrying about getting old in his second or third film.

I love him but it feels like Bond is getting defined by its ludicrous stunts... A younger actor would be much more believable in those scenes.

I am just not liking the way reinventing usually works.  Why reinvent James Bond, just switch to a different number and have fun with other agents.  James Bond is a misogynistic ahole, let his number be retired and give us 009.

Bond kinda has to be a little bit older.   He's a grizzled psychopath, which is why Tom Holland would make a terrible Bond.  "Bond.  James Bond."   *Gets cheeks pinched by the bad guy*

I finally got to see No Time to Die.  Didn't like it.   Waaaaaay way too much weepy crying over a score in a minor key.    I loved Craig's Bond, but I think we can definitively say he is done, though.

I'm a Tom Hardy advocate, but Elba would crush that role.    I'm rewatching The Wire right now.  That dude is just good.

Seeing as how the James Bond and Mission Impossible movies seem to be converging to produce the exact same film, just cast Tom Cruise and be done with it already.

I think if Bond was solely owned by one of the big studios, we'd already be seeing spinoff movies and we'd probably be two movies into a female-led secret agent spinoff series by now.

Go back to the beginnings:  In Casino Royale, they had a crap ton of Bonds, and everyone was OK with that...

I think part of the problem is that Mission Impossible is eating their lunch on the stunts front.  And there's no market for a cerebral Bond.

Going retro might be their best bet.

I doubt it'll be Elba, mainly because he's already established and the whole deal is they usually cast relative unknowns. I think Brosnan was the most famous pre-Bond Bond and he wasn't Elba-level famous

Also, I remember there was a minor controversy in Britain because they cast a blonde James Bond last time. Can't wait to see what the reaction is when it's an Asian woman or whatever

He would be a great choice, I think Radcliffe could do it too.

Idris would be OK in the role, but I think he's better as a TV actor than a movie actor, he needs a role that takes awhile to build and not for nothing but Idris is just about 50 years old now. Craig was in his 30's when he started the role (38) and he's 54 now.

Honestly. I'd kind of like to see the "new 007" they used in No Time To Die, I thought she was pretty good in the role, believable and even maybe better at being a spy than Bond was.

They need to really reinvent the character.  Something wildly radical.  Go Kate Miccuchi for Bond. Or melissa mccarthy.  And if magats complain, have the director say that the movie isnt for them and they shouldnt go to the movie.

Hell, go kate AND mellissa for bond.  Have them switch back and forth throught the movie so they can film the movie almost twice as fast.  And in the final fight, have them both fight the bad guy.  Dont have any characters aknowledge the switching or that there seem to be two of bond at once.  Leave it a mystery.

Lashana Lynch.

I was thinking the same thing. Plus you'd get the added benefit of the internet burning down that they cast a black woman as 007.

2022-06-30 10:20:22 AM
What they need to do is STOP reimagining James Bond and go back to the source. He's just another commando now, there's no pretense at espionage at all. Solo secret agent doesn't make any kind of sense in 2022, and if you make Bond a team, you have MI.  Bond works anywhere from 1880 to 1965, you're not stuck in the cold war, you could easily make that "The Great Game" era.

You didn't watch the most powerful scene in perhaps Bond movie history? Goddamn dude.

I don't understand the hate that No Time To Die gets, it's so farking good, and very anti-Bond in it's conclusion. No happy ending, no walking away, but a deliberate choice made for the right reasons for once.

Also, one of the most brutal rug pulls by a villain in the entire series. You can feel the loss Craig portrays, the exhaustion and reality setting in, and you know that this time he isn't getting away - he doesn't want to anymore. What's the point of living if you were kept at arms length from those you actually loved for the rest of your life, knowing that if you touched them, they'd die. Bond finally finds what he needs to fix his broken psyche, repair the near constant abuse he faced his entire life, and it's taken from him. Perhaps taken because he didn't deserve it after all the shiat he did over all the movies.

No Time To Die says a whole lot, and on top of that, beautifully shot, well acted and some fantastic action set pieces.
