Actually, my cover band is Yellow Trapezoid Vault Tops German.

Regardless, it seems that this vegan banana "ice cream" parlor went to a lot of design and architectural expense for a business that will not still be in business for that long.

/my wife bought one of these, not bad, a novelty, but not all that, either

My cover band is called "none of those photos show the forced perspective and the reader is forced to scroll down to ambiguous diagrams and drawings"... we mostly do Bauhaus and Tones on Tail.

I'm not seeing anything special there.

Shows what you know, subby.  "Probably the name of your cover band" is the name of my cover band.  It's in the second sentence, not the preceding one.  We also do songs about statistical onomatology.

As best I can tell, it's the illusion that the roof isn't a trapezoid.

"We made the ceiling narrower at the back."

That's the entire article.

So they had a blueprint of the room (which I have colorized below), and now I see it.  That completely trapezoidal shaped room only looks square because of that expertly constructed ceiling:

/today I learned that the guys who built my house in the 80s weren't drunk, they were simply making trapezoid shaped rooms but forgot to put in the right ceiling to complete the effect
//seriously though, based on the size of the door that room is only like 6" out of square

I always am amazed at how many shosp like this open up. You have to wonder what they are thinking.

About a block away from me, a new "cookie shop" opened up. It's in a high-traffic area, but isn't easily accessible. It's not a good location for that kind of place.

And...it serves one style of cookie. Like, some weird poofy thing that nobody ever has had before, and isn't very satisfying. And it's 2.00 per cookie. It's small. And this is an area where a "good" salary would be anything over $40k/year.

It's doomed. Completely doomed. I haven't seen a single person enter/exit that store in the few months it has been open, and I drive by it multiple times every day.

There's also a "popcorn shop" a few doors down that is in the same boat. They charge slightly-less than movie-theatre prices for *popcorn*. Who though that was a good idea? Where do they get the money to start these businesses? They can't all be the wives of doctors and lawyers.

A business which stays open despite never having any customers either has some other way of making their money which they don't publicize, or some other reason for being in that space that you probably shouldn't look at too closely.

i think the optical illusion here is an ad disguised as an article. dude was just writing up someone's banana stand as a favor, or trying to get a date or something. it's a cute place. their garbage must be the stench of legends, wow.

Maybe not doctors and attorneys but possibly well-connected Hasidic folks from NYC who move to Florida to take advantage of whatever they can in terms of less taxes, etc (and I'm not slamming them; it's just the reality). The wife might hire someone to create a business and then cater to that insular community in her local area. Popcorn at a Bar Mitzvah for the kids I could see as being a huge money-maker; the idea of a BM is to spend more than your neighbor for your kids BM, so paying $100 for a box of popcorn would not be surprising.

But...a cookie shop? Sounds like someone has enough money to engage in their hobby without needing to see a profit.

Vegan ice cream is impossible. Most countries even make it illegal to call it ice cream.
