Highhill said he does not foresee the league or teams directly operating a sportsbook.

Let's revisit this in, oh... let's say 3 years.  The NFL has never turned down an opportunity to monetize itself.

His job will be to monetize the valid data coming out of the NFL -- that will be a lucrative license.  Once the sportsbook industry starts to stabilize, the NFL will make it's next move to capture profits out of the business.

I'm sure there are ways for the league to manipulate things, but why would they stick their fingers on the scale any more than they can now, such as fudging to lengthen a series or a matchup between big markets? For every bad beat, the guy on the other side of the line gets a last minute win.
