Strangely I agree with his strategy as it only has 2 outcomes now, total failure or moderate success. Why bother worrying about failing? may as well go all in - you can't go double-bankrupt.

You don't get rich playing it safe.

Just like the last N BTC crashes, everyone says it's dead. And then, for the N-1 times it recovered and soared to insane heights, everyone said 'ya, I could have been rich. Back in college I mined/thought about mining a BTC but got out early'

If it hits 75k we will be hearing from people who swear they were this close to buying a lot of it would have hit 16k. Or whatever else.

And if it really really tanks, like down to a few dollars per coin, then it will be but people saying how obvious it was that it was a very long bubble that popped.

It's crazy how zero cryptobros here or anywhere else seem to mention having bought in between October and now.

Amazing how nobody 1st-hand anecdotally loses money in crypto.

Yes. Really.

Take 1000 regular people to a casino and give them each $10,000 with the intention of ending the day with the most money.

The expected ROI at any fair casino is negative for all of the players (regular people not card counters or cheaters). The mathematical optimal, smart money course of action is to keep the $10k, if your goal is to end with as much money as you can.

And yet, time and time again, the top winner, the luckiest out of 1000 people will walk away with more than $10k

It's classic risk vs. reward. A sure thing pays off very little, while a longshot has a big upside.

Most people are financially risk adverse. They enjoy daydreaming about it, but they want stability and hope they can work until 67 and maybe maintain their same lifestyle until they die. They invest with that goal while trying hard to avoid losing money.

It's smart. It's safe.

Not everyone wants that outcome though. People don't start businesses or invest in startups or invest in crypto because they want a safe investment with a modest ROI. They want to hit it big and they are okay losing.

Lots and lots of them will lose. A few will end up rich.

...or are in willful denial about the risk. But either way, the outcome is the same. Sure, they will cry when they lose, but a very small percentage will win big.

The economic landscape was, how shall I put this, somewhat different from what it is right now and there's a lot of evidence suggesting it directly affects Crypto, despite what Cryptobros claimed in the past.
As it looks right now, Bitcoin is struggling to remain above 20k (as I'm typing this it's 19k and dropping btw). Maybe it will soar back up soon but it seems very unlikely when Crypto exchanges and related companies are dropping left and right, disasters like Terra-Luna are happening, etc.

All I need for crypto to drop another 10-20% is for the Fed to do another ~0.5% or greater rate hike.

That is literally all it will take. And I'd suggest that is very likely in the near term.

There has been direct evidence that crypto, and specifically BTC doesn't do what it's supporters claim since day #1.

After Mt. Gox BTC dropped 99% - it went from $32 to less than a penny.

The market is not rational here. If ever BTC was meant to die, it was after that. And yet... Here we are. And people are like 'ha!! It can barely stay above $20,000!!!!! It's dead!'

I don't like BTC but it's highly volatile and has had huge crashes and huge climbs. If I wanted a safe bet, I wouldn't buy any. If I wanted a potential huge return, I would have bought when it was broke $20k. Because in two years it might be worth $100k or it might be worth $1

Never said it was dead and I don't think it will die, same for Blockchain technology. I'm saying it's very unlikely the value will climb back up anytime soon considering the current state of the global economy which directly affects Crypto. The current economy situation is different from what it was 4 years ago so I doubt there will be a big change as before anytime soon. Some "experts" predict the value of Bitcoin will continue to drop but who really knows.

Me neither and I'm willing to bet a lot of people are going to lose a lot of money in the coming months and more Crypto companies will go tits up as the price continues to drop.

Jeez dude I have read a few of your comments thinking you were joking but you are not apparently. The dollar graph is not taking into account the vast growth of the economy in that 100 years. You would have to increase the supply of bitcoins to have the same effect, but that is capped. I'm sorry you have lost so much recently (if you are deep in crypto) but man, please understand WHY the the nerds here on Fark disagree. It's because there are people that have made a shiatload of money on crypto, it has been a truth for a decade now. But not everything stays the same forever, and we're near the end for a lot of reasons. Like the same reasons you don't want to buy a used graphics card now.

Just broke below 19k again, I'm not telling you to sell but please don't buy this dip or suggest that to people right now.

Whine all you want......

Blockchain is here to stay, boo.

Blockchain is old and busted. I've seen the future. You are poor.

Reason? Logic? Concern?

Dude, you're missing out on free money. Just buy a Bitcoin and HODL until death. Free money.

The only thing more broken than the Dollar is the blockchain. Open your eyes to the future.

No you didn't hear my me those other times, but I'm talking now. Also Bitcoin is down 5% since your last flurry of posts. Don't take this as hostile commentary, people are losing a lot and we should be aware of your investment risks.

One of your other responses:

"Focus not so much on the coin as on its underlying blockchain.
----The Wise Men"

A made up quote isn't going to make Blockchain a magic word. The concept of blackchains will persist. Bitcoin's chain will forever be a piece of history. There are many other blockchains. But it is still a bad time to invest in Bitcoin, and if I was mining it I would be selling as I go, like most are, but a few years ago I would hold.

You know why people like me might think that? An engineering degree and a facination with economics. The underlying concept, not the Blockchain, but how mining and processing transactions work, means there was always a time limit on this.

I love Linux_Yes's chart.  In 1912, bacon was $0.15 per pound.  Oh NO, INFLATION.  Oh, yeah, the average income was $750 per year.  But FIAT CURRENCIES!  EVIL!

But Hawk the Hawk... the command line interface is so much FASTER.  (Sadly realize that they can't touch type and they have to type in commands that they barely know the function of.)

You fool!  The command line is just what the Fed wants you to rely on!!  That's why it's being decentralised on Web3.1456
