Much like the studio's other releases, one of the game's goals is to get players outside being active.

That's a weird way to say make as much money off the user.

Pokemon Go is a fun game, but every decision Niantic has made in the last year has been a kick in the balls to its players.  They are a piece of shiat company with assholes running it.

Because for them, their billion-dollar game is just a vehicle to collect location data to sell as part of their AR package to other companies.  And it's funny how the AR features are the least-used part of the game, outside of using AR+ to exploit catching raid bosses like Kyogre.

I blame Ingress for Pokémon Go.

Side note: I was also (unrelatedly) in downtown Chicago for that crazy failure of a Pokémon Go world event they tried a bunch of years ago. Only time I have been in Chicago without cell phone service. (Luckily the people- watching made up for the inconvenience.) I have not laughed that hard in a long time.

Pokémon Go is not a fun game. It's barely a game at all and there's almost nothing to do. If you're still having fun with it, that's great, but, for me and most of my friends, the gameplay loop got old fast.

They've never forgiven players for having fun wrong.

My daughter was playing and made me start so I could help her.   Its something we do together so I enjoy it.
Also joined the local chat with the die hards so it makes it easy for us to do the big raids.  I'm sure I'll tire of it eventually as you guys did...

I still enjoy Pokémon GO but I refuse to give them any more money. (it was much too much) The coins I spend are earned in gyms. I have a Stop and Gym right across the street and there are others in the building that take it all the time so coins are easy to get.

My main complaint is they change the odds when they have a money making event. Two examples I can think of right off the bat.

- A few years ago they had an event where you could get Shiny Regionals from 7km eggs. I hatched almost 300 7km eggs and got one shiny. And it was Tauros, something I could already get sitting on my ass in my apartment.

-Recently there was an event that had a lot of catch 3 Pikachu or catch 3 Eevee. So I go out walking get 3 of one task and the Pokémon is nowhere to be found for a long while. Then it flips to the other one. Pikachu and Eevee spawn here ALL the time. No way I walked a mile without seeing one, or five.

I was a serious Ingress player. Like, if I needed a key from a different state, I knew who to talk to to get one. And then they had an event in my city and I got very excited for it and people came from many, many miles away... and the crowd overwhelmed the data infrastructure. The game was unplayable.

Ingress made me appreciate triangles and small, unknown points of interest more, and also made me want to work somewhere with a fountain or a 4 foot statuette in my front yard (because that qualified, at the time). Hope you made some good triangles!

Not a word of that made any sense to me.  Time to go back to yelling at clouds I guess.  Which is a free outdoor activity, by the way!

In other words: the manufacturers of the game claimed that they were going to add more carrot to the game for a limited time to drum up engagement, but they actually added more stick instead.

My analogy would be you put $500 on red. They called no more bets, spun the wheel, and then removed all the red spaces and one of the green.

Niantic just laid off 8% of their workforce, canceled 4 upcoming projects:

The canceled projects include Heavy Metal, a Transformers game that Niantic announced last year, and Hamlet, a collaboration between Niantic and Punchdrunk, the theatrical company behind the popular interactive play Sleep No More. The other two projects were called Blue Sky and Snowball.s
