I have to admit, that is one seriously loud game. Living near a pickle ball court would truly suck. A good friend of mine who lives in Sweden just told me today that this recently became a big issue in his town. Apparently the city decided to just tear up the pickle ball courts (which used to be tennis courts) because they were so annoying.

Scratchy, who lives in the neighborhood and frequently plays on the courts... and who'd be at the corner bar if he weren't playing.

Scratchy who plays pickleball, could've summed up the entire article in one sentence.

"It's as loud as a rock concert," said neighbor Joe O'Donnell.

Oh, fark off, Joe, with your drama queen bullshiat. It might be as loud as a rock concert a mile away when you're standing next to the courts, but stop making shiat up.

Jesus, they birthed you stupid right out of the gate, didn't they?

Or dishonest.

You choose. But I'm not seeing a bunch of 70 year Olds playing. I see people in their thirties. But that doesn't work, does it? Then you can't unload your favorite insult if it turns out that everyone is doing it, can you?

Jesus, you people are just as farking dishonest as the people who you claim to hate.

I live next to a park. A while back they put in a set of pickle ball courts behind me. Not super close, but maybe 50 yards from my back wall. There's no obstruction between them and my place.

They really aren't that loud. The geriatric set loves them and plays on them 24/7 and it's never bothered us. The cars driving down the street are louder.

We're much more annoyed by the leaf blowers the park guys fire up at 6am on Saturdays.

We had an enthusiastic pickleball league up here about 15 years back, local tv broadcast matches. Everyone involved, including the tv station, is now gone.

This sounds like something to make a YouTube video about comparing the noise levels of casual sports. Pickleball, tennis, basketball. At least racquetball is done in a tight room at a place.

Only people I've ever seen playing it (and frankly, the first I learned of it)  were the people in my mother's retirement community.

So ha!  I have an anecdote, too!

My hometown dealt with the problem by building a set of shiny new pickleball courts at the one park that is bordered by a busy three-track main line railroad.  Nobody takes much notice of the oldsters when every fifteen minutes there's 16,000hp worth of diesel-powered locomotives pass by dragging two miles of shipping containers behind them.

Jesus you must be stupid since you look at one picture and decide its mostly younger people.

Here moron, try looking into it:

https://www.silversneakers.com/blog/pickleball-health-benefits/

The SFIA report notes that among the 1.4 million "core" participants - defined as those who play at least eight times a year - 60 percent are 55 or older and more than 33.7 percent are 65 or older.

Our town allows pickle ball in the tennis courts.

No one complained of the noise.  They did grow vines up the fence though so wonder if that deadens the noise.

FTA The courts are open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays and are closed on Sundays.

WTF? What park board or park manager decides it's a good idea to close recreational courts on a Sunday?

At least locally, that's exactly who we see playing.  Now that school is out, they seem to be bringing their grandkids to play, so the median age may be shifted temporarily.

PS. This is not a retirement community, it's a university town.

It's going to be highly dependent on where you live. When I visited Kansas City a month ago for work, there was a big bar with pickle courts on it, and the place was packed with people my age (30's), not a single older couple.

Also, that's a pretty brilliant idea, I wish I had that at home.

Thwack would be a tennis sound, which used to be common before everybody switched to pickleball. Pickleball is more of a small "pop", like a .22 caliber pistol. You'd think Americans would be used to that sound by now.

Isn't it basically wiffleball version of tennis? Created to be a cheap, crappy version you can play in your back yard?
