It was tense.  53 unforced errors did Serena in.  Just couldn't stay consistent.

That was a match. Not sure thrilling is the correct term though.

I dislike Serena as much as many can but my feelings were best summed up by the matrix:
not like this.

It wasn't a good-time type of match. Serena Williams doesn't have "it" anymore. And she looked and played pained and angry at the realization.

She may have another win or two in her at lesser tournaments, but it looks like she'll never match Margaret Court's grand slam wins record. Serena Williams winning grand slam days are over. Time to retire.

I think the 20 minute/30 point game in the second set did her in.

Most GS Singles all time is all she has left as well, she's miles behind Martina in every other category I believe.

Margaret's grand slam record is built on a giant lie though; most of her wins are pre open era and most people skipped Australia back then. After the tournament opens up Court still won a  couple but was not dominate.

Im 99% convinced now that people started calling Court the record holder cause they just didn't like Serena.

What? I was watching tennis decades before Serena came along, and it was always Court. Only Martina, Evert and King have more career titles.  Helen Wills, I'll give you, as clearly being from another era, but Court could have been competitive until the Martina era most likely, racist old biatch or not.

So old article about Graf run rarely mention Court.

Here's an LATimes of Graf going for 22...Courts names just not there, as you'd think they'd at least mention it right?

Other articles make the distinction of Amateur slam vs  open and give Court 13 Open slams and 11 Open.

All the slams were amateur until 68, but I think the women could do both. Laver was the one who got screwed, he won 11 of the 16 grand slam titles he contested in his prime. The pro tour put him out of 20 grand slams from age 23 to 28.

A player of her history deserves a planned and public retirement, either at Wimbledon or at the US Open. Play one final match in Ashe, and wave goodbye in glory.
