I don't remember the first one, but I'm impressed that they got all three to reprise their roles. Looks fun.

We watched the original for the first time recently; I wouldn't have guessed there would be a market for this three decades later.

I don't get it either, but then, I dress up every now and then as a spaceman with a laser sword from a movie over 40 years old

One bright spot of the pandemic is that when the movie theater did their whole "private screening" thing where you could buy out the whole auditorium for like $125, I surprised the wife with a screening of the first one.

It's a fun movie. Nothing award winning, but fun and goofy. A kid's movie that isn't so watered down that adults can't enjoy it. Besides, it's got Bette Midler. You can't go wrong with Bette.

Torn about the trailer, though. I hate when they give away the entire movie, or ruin all of the good jokes, but that was more of a teaser than a trailer, so I'm not really sure how the movie will turn out.

Yep, first time getting to see her standup was at my gay neighbor's place back in the 90s. They really love that woman.

No. So far, I've managed to avoid Twitter, but I would definitely follow her if I was one there, along with Tony Hawk. His Twitter feed is supposed to be the shiat as well.

One cool part about growing up 70s/80s was that when she started making all of her movies in the 80s, I was the perfect age to enjoy them. God, that woman can be funny.

Awesomeness. I seem to recall him posting on his twitter about it at some point. His physical acting is basically the best in  the biz as far as humanoids, so I'm happy to see him in anything.

My sister was obsessed with the first one, she was around 14 when it came out and must have watched the DVD 100 times over a year. Because of this, I've seen it a number of times, it's not bad. I imagine they are targeting the same kind of audience again.

Depends -- does grunge give you tingling in your swimsuit area?

I was forced to watch the first one at a company family event a few years ago. I had never been filled with so much hate for a film and the people who enjoyed it. Not to get solipsistic, but it felt like this film was made specifically to piss me off.

I only have one positive thing to say about it, and that is it looked like Midler, Parker, and Najimy had a ton of fun making it.

But seriously, fark this movie.

It's one of those movies that an entire generation just absolutely latched onto if they were the right age when it came out. See also: Nightmare Before Christmas or Napoleon Dynamite.

Not necessarily bad movies, but people that became fans of them became weirdly obsessive.

I have a few friends that love the movie though lol.

I mean I like it - but I'd describe it as goosebumps when it's good rather than swimsuit tingling.

It's not an amazing film but tons of people watched it as a kid so it has a huge nostalgia factor. But there's a bunch of movies like that. I watched A Christmas Story for the first time last year and had the same reaction. It's meh at best.

I hope it is like the first one: a bit goofy, a bit scary, and a fun way to spend 2 hours watching something mindless. I like the first one but can only watch it once per Halloween season.

It's become beloved... an occult classic if you will.

It didn't do well at the box office, but the Disney Channel and the increased Halloween interest has been the driver I believe.

Hocus Pocus can't even manage to clear the seemingly low bar of being the best early-90's made-for-kids horror movie themed around Halloween

My favorite is when he's going through customs...

TSA Agent: Your name is Tony Hawk? Like the skater?
Tony Hawk: Yeah, like the skater.

/the other fun thing he does is drive around neighborhood skateboard parks, ask the kids to do a kick flip or olly or some basic move, and give them free swag when they pull it off

As with all things Disney/Star Wars/Pixar, under their current leadership, the "market" are adults trying to live vicariously through their children.   And best of all... its a guarantee of multiple tickets per family.

I apparently  saw her perform in Bermuda when I was 7 on a family trip. 1971.
The only thing I remember is the guy at the piano wore a little fur coat.
My sisters told me it was Barry Manilow.

I am partial to Drowning Mona. She is excellent in it as is DeVito, Jamie Lee Curtis and the rest of the cast.
