They're "wonderful" in the vintage sense, but dear lord please use a rocket blaster to get some of the dust off of those slides.

Just look at the size of those big old land yachts! Amazing. My father had one like that and he would take my brother and I and 8 of our friends out to get ice cream in it. Good times.

Then the oil crisis came and we realized that 4,000lb hunks of steel were not the best idea in the world.

50 years later... "HEY LET'S DO THE SAME THING AGAIN BUT BIGGER!"

Land yachts were definitely cool in their own way... but insanely stupid waste of resources all around. Construction and propulsion.

I remember in September of 1971 shopping with my dad for a new Chevrolet. The dealership looked like this one as they all did. Car showrooms were for him the way computer stores are for me. Lots of dreams. He wanted a new Impala and settled for a new Vega. Compromises. We all make them.

When in high school (early 70s) I had 2 friends who each had Opel GTs. Very cool cars. Yes, I got to drive both of them.

Considering that all the Jags there are either XJ sedans (which are now worth next to nothing) or XKE coupes (which are now worth waaaaay less than an XKE roadster), one the most currently-valuable of the vehicles pictured there might be this blue GMC pickup, as these particular Chevy/GMC pickups from the late 60s/early 70s, which only a few years ago were worth little more than scrap value, have recently become very very collectible and pricey:

I was talking to a guy at the gas station last weekend who was filling up his cherried-out 1970 Chevy Nova SS that's powered by a built-out crate 383 stroker Chevy V8. He was complaining about how he never really really drove the thing any more other than pulling it out of the garage to wash it and driving it around the block.  As he noted, the thing gets around 7 mpg around town, and here in Northern California premium gas costs pretty close to $7/gal, so driving it costs him around $1 a mile just for gas.

Adam-12 is on MeTV every night.  Some very neat cars show up in the background.

My dad had a '70 Buick Electra about the same color as the one in the pic. It may have been a two door, but it was still a living room on wheels.

Because those pickups are the only ever built that are worthy of the word Beautiful. I will brook no argument nor additions.
