Because Obi Wan and Yoda knew he would just lecture about the true nature of the living force, and decided Luke didn't need that in his time of grief.

/Still can't figure out how Lucas farked up having Liam Neesom as a Jedi master

Here's an idea... Force Ghost Jar Jar!

"Oooooh Ani lookie it's Lukie!"

I don't think it occurred to anyone that Qui Gon should have been there, aside from whoever wrote this bullshiat
.

The Special Editions (and any changes Lucas made subsequently) suck.

The ghosts are summoned, it's your basic necromancy deal.

Did someone retcon Luke knowing Qui-gon to summon him in the first place? I get that it's not a fully deliberate ritual thing and he could do it subconsciously... but even in the EU we basically never saw the Force wear the face of someone the summoner didn't know outside of shiat like the Temples where rules were deliberately thrown out the window to create mystery spots.

I mean, I guess the Sith tended to make a different kind of ghost to actually keep existing individually and possess people, was there a Retcon that QG has a secret "darth" title on his CV? That sounds like a thing Disney might fanfiction up.

Is this about Obi Wan exploding into a pile of meat sticks when Vader hits him in ANH?

Same way he farked everything else up: He started filming with just an outline of a script, and then just farking made up all the dialogue and half the plot as he went along.

George Lucas's greatest sin wasn't Jar-Jar, it wasn't the prequel trilogy, it wasn't the special editions.

It was selling Star Wars to Disney.

They'll Never Stop The Special Editions!
Have no fears, we've got ideas for years, like
Leia becomes a droid,
Maybe Han gets a cell phone, has Luke ever owned a loth-bear?

There are only three Star Wars movies.
There is only one Matrix and Highlander film.
They stopped making Star Trek films after IV.
Only two Alien movies.
For some strange reason BSG was discontinued abruptly after three seasons

Lucas hasn't done anything for years apparently according to his IMDb page.
There's all these writing credits but they all have the annotation "character created by" or something similar.

But then that means he isn't releasing movies that he keeps "finishing" for decades after their release.

Maybe you didn't notice, but the special editions are edits to the original three movies. Pay attention.

If I was already a zillionaire, or whatever he is worth. And justa want to enjoy retirement or whatever he is doing, handing off the property to angry nerds would leave him alone is probably what I would do.

Yeah, you won't escape past angry nerds, but now it's someone else's problem. And look how happy they are.

Not just a ghost.  A ghost with a particular set of skills.  Like being a ghost.

Uhm, yeah.

You know that the prequels were mostly shot at absurdly LOW resolutions. The effort to get 1080p-ish content upscaled and still look sharp to go onto 4K BluRays was a feat of engineering.

Downloading Harmy's de-specialized editions is my recommendation. They look utterly amazing. And yes, I do actually own the original trilogy (on VHS but who's counting).

Three and a half.

Because of an impending writers strike, the mid season break where they were all standing in the bombed out ruins of "earth" was meant to be a dystopian end to the whole thing.

I loved the whole series, but if it had ended here it probably would have been better received overall.

Were they digitally shot? That would make sense. There's nothing left to upscale there, unlike film.

I bought a laserdisc box set of the original trilogy (it was like $5 at the thrift store) and it turns out it's from about 1997, so it's all the remastered stuff. It's pretty obvious what was added, especially since mid-90s CGI was quickly dated.

If i had to choose a fandom i think I'd prefer Star Trek, but honestly both worlds ended for me around 2003. I have zero interest in any of the newer stuff because it's crap. Not even bringing Patrick Stuart back can save the dumpster fire that became Star Trek, and the new Star Wars movies were passed around between JJ Abrams and Rian Johnson so they had absolutely no hope of being examples of coherent, satisfying storytelling.

You know how everyone got all pissed off when TNT started colorizing B/W movies? That's how I feel about screwing around with a movie's original VFX.

Get Rich or Try Dyin': I thought Lucas sold. Can he legally make anything related to the Star Wars universe?

Correct. George has had no legal authority over Star Wars (or anything to do with Lucasfilm) for nearly ten years now.
