I'd love to be wrong. I pray that I am. I'll eat my farking hat, and happily at that, if they pull it out of their asses.

Sure.  Why not?  It's not like she can deliver on that in any way, so it's fine.

And no matter what the House passes, Manchin and Sinema make it a 52-48 Republican majority against it passing the Senate.

Yeah, that'll get a curtsy and thumb down from Sinema. At least Thomas doesn't pretend to be unbiased, or knowledgeable, as he votes for straight authoritarian rule over common sense, decency, and the Constitution. His next probable target, interracial marriage. Watch out Ginni women will not have equal rights in this ruling either you subversive vixen!

We have a manual for this.  Ginny will become the equivalent of an "Aunt" In Handmaid's Tale.

Careful. That would be dangerously close to majority rule. The Nazis and racists won't like that.

Biden might be wimping out on his response but apparently Nancy Pelosi still has her balls.
End the filibuster and expand SCOTUS. That's how we get our country back.
Or...ya know...we could keep losing.

If Manchin and Sineme... I don't know, accidentally fall into a sewer together full of crocodiles, would there be an emergency election to replace them, or would someone be appointed to fill in until the next official election?

Asking for a friend who lives in a sewer.... Chompy.

Agreed. I think you'd need two of the "moderate" Republicans to do it. Maybe Collins can show us how surprised she really was by crossing the aisle. Don't know who the other one would be?

That's the only reason I could think of that she would do this. Otherwise what could have possibly changed between the leaked decision and now?

Democrats would have to control the senate in order for the filibuster to be eliminated

And Jill Biden just had a party for a farking Nancy Reagan stamp. These people are stuck in a different time, are in deep denial, have Stockholm syndrome toward the GOP or simply do not actually give a fark about fighting for anything. Maybe all the above.

When McCain died, the governor appointed McSally. So that's one seat that would go back to Republican hands. Don't know how it works in W. Virginia.

This 100% needs to be the plan.  All dems need to push this.  Change the unthinkable to the inevitable.

These are not normal times.  A seditious political party led by a failed coup leader has managed to install a majority of the justices on the court by bad faith means.

This is not just the right thing to do, to do anything less would be a grave injustice to our nation.

I don't know about WV, but in Arizona, a Democrat would be appointed to replace her and that person would serve until the winner of the 2024 general election takes office (which could be said appointee if they run and win.) If the seat had become vacant a month ago, the appointment would be made and the appointee would serve until at least January, but the seat would be up this election, and the winner would serve out the rest of Sinema's term through 2024. As for who is appointed, the party would submit three candidates to the governor and he would choose from them. (If someone switches parties while in office, the appointee would come from the party that they were a member of when they were elected.)

Nope. In Arizona the replacement by law is from the same party as whoever vacated office.

The farking politics.  The generic ballot nust took a lurch by 7-10 points in the Dems favor, the Jan 6 committee is about to drop a bomb on the GOP (allegedly) and there are millions in the streets howling for blood of the GOP.

You can even still think Nancy is just a cynical opportunist. But what has changed is everything.

I think a lot of you are missing the point. If Democrats can mobilize on this issue and somehow manage to net two seats in November, then they won't need Manchin or Sinema. There's a tremendous amount of energy coalescing around this issue, Nancy Pelosi is building hype. Hopefully it will have enough momentum to carry the day.

I hope Nancy has a plan to get them on side that's different from what they tried for the BBB and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act.

And what happens when SCOTUS then rules that because, as per Dobbs, Abortion isn't a right granted by the Constitution, the 10th Amendment grant power to regulate it to the States? And then the overturn Obergefell, citing Dobbs, and similarly pass all aspects of marriage back to the States.

No "originalist" worth his or her salt would ever assert something so stupid as to suggest that American rights exist because the constitution grants them. Per their common law origin, rights pre-date the constitution and are among its raisons d'être.

The whole purpose of the United States is to preserve liberty and prosperity for ourselves and later generations. That presumably includes the right to control one's reproductive activities. If you cannot control your body, your other rights don't exist in a meaningful way.

This is all true but most of our SCOTUS isn't worth their salt (and also aren't really originalists, but originalists are idiots, so is much of SCOTUS)

Whole-hearted agreement here. It won't change their views, but I feel like their contradictions should be shouted to the roof tops by all with a voice.
