Sub in some pickled jalapeno juice instead of pickle juice for extra kick/flavor.

Secret tech: hardboiled/peeled/pickled eggs in jalapeno juice are amazing

It's hardly news that a salty addition provides the culinary equivalent of a bass line in a musical tune. Depth of flavour is what you need, a good stock is ideal but a similar additive including some pickle brine can provide it under the right circumstances. It's really obvious. I'm Australian, we use Vegemite to do the same job in many cases!
