LOL $40 million to live in an ugly hotel in Virginia. people will be lining up I'm sure.

2022-06-27 8:10:55 PM
Are those my only two options? I'm not too wild about either choice.

2022-06-27 8:12:57 PM
needs more beigey white.

It looks like it would make a borderline acceptable third home for Elon Musk.  Assuming it has space for a hyperloop to somewhere (where is not important).

2022-06-27 8:18:21 PM
That's obscene.

2022-06-27 8:24:53 PM
Van down by the river sounds good about now.

2022-06-27 8:25:38 PM
For $39 million I would rather have a $1 million home on $38 million worth of property.

2022-06-27 8:27:29 PM
That is an ugly, soulless house. It will never be a home, just a place someone dwells.

Manchin's checks cleared and he's moving off the yacht?

yeah, but you'd have to live in DC.

I'd rather have a $500k home, $1.5M in blow, and $37M in hookers (and a pizza oven)

Does Ms. Gonzalez come with the house?  Because, if that's the case, I might try to scrounge up a downpayment.

2022-06-27 8:40:47 PM
Now, is Bumfark closer to Kokomo or Peru? I know I've been there. It's somewhere between Lafayette and Fort Wayne on 24 or 26. Can't remember which.

Everything is a bargain basement fixer upper if your brave enough.

8 years to plan and build, selling as soon as finished.  Like a Farking little boy with a new toy.

2022-06-27 8:49:05 PM
The entire thing just looks like it was built to show off, and not to actually live in and do things in. I realize that's exactly the point for just about everyone throwing that kind of money around, but... blech.

Turbo Cojones: 8 years to plan and build, selling as soon as finished.  Like a Farking little boy with a new toy.

Also this, but then it pretty much is... just about everyone with that kind of money is the child of inherited wealth.

An allegory comes to mind... the White Elephant.

Someone should buy it and give it to their worst enemy. As a gift!

"20 minutes from downtown DC" is something you can't really say without some significant qualifiers.  Like "by helicopter".

Hmmm... that sounds... unfortunate.

Too bad it's not in Gary Indiana. I'd totally buy it then.

I never understand this attitude when some rich dude does something stupid with their money.  I think it's fantastic.  All the contractors and suppliers got a couple million dollars of his money.  It added work for all the people that work for those companies.

I completely agree with you. The popularity of the beigey white colors is total cowardice. "Who says crown molding has to be white?!?" exclaims the most dangerous human in the room.

But seriously ... color should not be an afterthought.

Dammit, Subby - don't you be knockin' on Bumfark, Indiana.  I've been there, and you ain't lived 'til you drove your golf cart from the trailer park over to the new 8-lane combination bowling alley/gun range where they play both kinds of music - country and western and one of the best selections of beef jerky this side of Texas.  They got everything you could ever want all under one roof.  So, until you've experienced it, you just shut your uppity whore mouth.

2022-06-27 10:07:04 PM
Yeah it's okay but what am I going to do with a second one ?

Actually the location on this one makes it plausible.   It's just off Chain Bridge Road, so you head over Chain Bridge and then down Canal Road. Most mornings if you leave before 8 you can be at the Foggy Bottom end of the Whitehurst Freeway in 20 minutes easy.  I live about two miles south of this house, and often commute that way.  If I leave the house at 7:30 I can be at my office near Penn Quarter by 7:55.

2022-06-27 10:14:44 PM
Um, I'm pretty sure if you can afford a 39 million dollar home you can afford to paint the molding whatever the fark color you want and it's just conceivable that maybe when you are selling a 39 million dollar home you can afford to stage it as a blank canvas.

But anywho I hate the idea that any human being should, could, or would or spend that much money on a house.  It's farking obscene.  We have a gadzillion farking mcmansions eating up every available decent lot in the St. Louis area.  Want a small house on a big lot in a decent neighborhood near civilization for less than a million dollars?  TOO FARKING BAD.

Haven't been there. Would like to visit during the Mid-Century Modern week-touring the homes. The listing says that the furnishings are worth about $300,000. "It costs a lot of money to look this cheap." Dolly Parton

LOL, Palm Springs can be a blast, but all the really fun stuff happens too late for me these days. I love mid cen modern though, so there's that. We always overnight when we have to schlep out to Phoenix, breaks up the stupid drive. If the construction ever finishes hopefully it'll get back to an easy six hours and we won't want to do that, but I hate sitting in traffic.

The billionaire who buys it will have it demolished so he can spend $47M on hisdream house, with 3 helicopter pads, and an indoor range to shoot gold-plated ammo with his M134 minigun.

For $39M, I'll buy the "fixer-upper" and fix it.

/ i.e., test it down and build something nice
/ and still have more than $38M left
