Has Heard heard?

I dunno, isn't the whole Pirates thing kind of played?

and a spin-off Disney+ series about the early life of the Captain of the Black Pearl

So the first movie was 20 years ago and his new show is going to take place before that? I know he wears a lot of makeup but damn. I'd rather see him play Hunter S. Thompson again.

$300M?

I hate to see what the actual budget is for the whole thing.

Sounds like a 'the legend of' type of movie.

"The fact is, Mr. Depp, if Disney came to you with $300 million and a million alpacas, nothing on this earth would get you to go back and work with Disney on a Pirates of the Caribbean film? Correct?" he asked.
Depp replied: "That is true, Mr. Rottenborn."

Seems they didn't the alpacas

Modeled after the success of "Young Indiana Jones" no doubt.

Makes sense because so many people have been flocking to his movies the past 5 years

/probably won't assault yet another crew member, either

So the price of an apology from the Mouse is $301 million.

Sounds like a 'let's get back to making money' sort of thing.

I would too, but Rum Diary was a bomb and led to all of this mess with Amber.

I doubt he ever goes back to that well.

Mr. Depp have you seen the newest pirates movie?
Depp- No I haven't but I have heard the misery of my ex-wife over the money and it is wonderful

Mugato: I dunno, isn't the whole Pirates thing kind of played?

When they came out I think I maybe saw the first one or two of them.  One definitely in the theater, the second likely on DVD.

This Spring I'm bringing a new band to market and playing the same 35 songs in a row about every night.  It's about 2 hours plus every night with a guitar in my hands playing the same stuff over and over.

The only was it hasn't gotten tedious for me is that I will put on Disney+ and it kind of rolls through the "Pirates" series as I practice.  Without subtitles off I can be distracted enough by it but still learn the songs enough to know the material as deeply as I need to.  It almost perfectly fosters that muscle memory I need for this gig to work.

I can't think of a series that has that sort of continuity to it and isn't too compelling for me.  For instance, I couldn't do it with the LoTR series; I'd be into it way too much.  Same with Harry Potter, although I find the visual differences between those films to be somewhat jarring.

PoTC is the perfect series to just put on and have there running.  The plot or characters are in no way so distracting that you'll totally lose focus and there's no risk of such dramatic changes that it'll break mood.

Disney are very interested in patching up their relationship with Johnny Depp,"

I mean he got some vindication from the lawsuit win. Buuuuuuut have Disney execs seen the bloated, sloppy, slurring mess the guy has become? I know Jack Sparrow is kinda like that yet I'm not sure the audience wants another go around.

To be fair, a court ruled in his favor saying that those allegations were false.

Disney's throwing money away then.
The pirates franchise is played out.
Last couple movies at least, each was worse than the one before it.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Sailing Stormy Social Security Seas.

Follow the adventures of Captain Jack Sparrow as he decides to retire and buys a Winnebago.

From Medicare enrollment and supplemental insurance to figuring out when to apply for Social Security for maximum benefits, you'll laugh in sympathy, you'll cry in frustration, you'll try Pesto sauce for the first time.

This will help him pay his legal costs for the libel case he lost in England. Another reminder that the judge found The Sun's description of him as a wife beater to be substantially true.

The collective neck beard attachment to Depp has ensued I'll never watch anything with him again. But I don't watch marvel or Star wars either and my "boycott" doesn't seem to be having an impact on low effort garbage.

I would be more interested in seeing him play a character that we have never heard of that his no relationship to any previously mined IP. Of course that's what I think about every actor. And yes, I realize that would require a writer to write something 'new' ( easy and it happens all the time and there are thousands of existing choices) and a studio to back something that is not tied to some previously exploited IP that is already controlled by one of the major media groups ( not gonna happen).

I'd rather Johnny Depp take some time off and get some therapy because like Ms. Heard, he's mentally and emotionally farked up.

If he were smart, following appeals etc., and assuming he prevails, he should tell Ms. Heard it was not about the money and that she does not need to pay on the judgment.  And he should allow the offer to become public.

Kinda feel like most of y'all were sick of Pirates movies after the second one, because I've never been able to find anyone who enjoyed the third one besides me. And then, JFC was Pirates 4 a stinker despite Ian McShane, so bad in fact that I never saw 5 because the people who did come out for 4 despite 3 said if you hated 4, 5 would retroactively end your enjoyment of 1-3, so I'm trying to imagine the existence of a built in audience so eager for a sixth that they would pay Johnny Depp what amounts to "the entire budget of Pirates 3, AKA the most expensive movie EVER made on it's release" before they begin to speak of the rest of the movie budget. What the f*ck

Depp no longer has the chops for that. Personally I've never seen him as much of an actor as far as range goes, like most movie stars. He was entertaining when properly cast, then he went the weird route with his Burton collaborations which then became his niche, the weirdo shtick that's like a stink he won't/can't  get rid off. His current alcohol and drug dependency has him where can't even do THAT right. (see: Crimes of Grindenwal, yikes).
So what's he got going now? Looks? Eeeeeh dude looks every bit a hard 65 when you take all the crap off drugged out his ass all day, shuffling like a Florida retiree. Disney should save their money.

Well from a PR standpoint (which equates to employability) he'd look like hero.  Which would further redeem his image and lead to more film roles, the value of which will eclipse what he received in a judgment that may not be enforceable since Ms. Heard likely does not have the money to pay the judgment and may now be box office poison (i.e. unemployed).

So yeah ... smart.

Good movie but not nearly his most prominent

Yeah, I'm not buying the $300mill for "a movie, maybe two" thing, even if he also does the Disney+ series. He's not exactly, how do you say, "bankable" anywhere else, I'm guessing.

That's not even his best movie of the late 1990s. Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas and Sleepy Hollow were better.
