What's so special about Ray-Bans other than a designer name? They don't seem to be better than the cheapies I get from Amazon.

They've been kind of one of those ubiquitous designs that's never gone out of style.  They always look current.  Except when I wear them.

Luxxottica probably makes both.  They're a behemoth.  They own something like 60% of the eyeglasses market.

I've had my Predator 2's for nearly 25 years now. Comfortable and stylish with the shape of my head.

How in the hell can someone keep a pair of sunglasses that long?

I wouldn't mind a nice pair of lux glasses but I know it's pointless, might be able to keep them a month

I wear wayfarers, have for 20 yrs or more. Don't care for the new ones but they are comfortable. Also I can afford them but they are overpriced.  Still cheaper than Oakleys. They last a long time.

Polarizing? To a very few.  For a truly polarizing brand see:

For years this guy made billions selling the only good sunglasses. Only recently can you find good cheap brands.

I actually think they own all of it. Except for some small, boutique online retailers like Warby Parker and the like. They should be a completely illegal monopoly.

I have a pair of Ray-ban mirrored aviators that I bought back in the 80s when Ray-ban was made in US Murica by  Bausch & Lomb.   Despite being ancient, they are still in one piece, and wear them regularly.

The best I've found is not Luxxottica.  It's these guys:  https://www.prodesigndenmark.com/

Eh, I mean, Luxottica is bad for business, but it's not like they make crap. I'm sure as hell not going out of my way to not buy their brands. As far as I know, they're not evil like Nestle.

You don't get to be a billionaire by selling high-quality sunglasses at affordable prices...

I've been an Adidas man when it comes to shades all of life. Now, the problem with that is I lose or sit on them.

I've resorted to some cheap pair of Ironman glasses and guess what....2 years in and I have yet to lose or break them, go figure.

Never owned Oakley's or Ray-Bans, but understand their ski goggles are good(?)

Welp... let's hope his eyewear empire collapses and falls to Ash so all kinds of glasses can be affordable again instead of "what the marker can bare"

Some estimates give them 80% global market share. These guys dominate the market so hard that Walmart is crying foul.
