hmmmm, most people who do this say it tastes like badly prepared beef liver?

and most seem to believe it has health and immune benefits.

and NOT overcooked calf liver isn't half bad.....

what say you, farkers? anyone tasted human placenta so far?

Our farm dog used to eat the cow placenta. Little guy noshed it straight off the ground.

I've eaten pretty much every organ. I won't eat brains because of the risk of prions and the resulting diseases. Intestines are too rubbery and they have a smell that lingers even if you wash them thoroughly. Spleens smell like an abbatoir after they're cooked.

As to favorite organ meat, I do like chicken hearts, gizzards, and liver. Beef tongue, heart, and tripe are good. Fish eggs. Kidneys are fine. Sweetbreads are more for the texture than flavor.

Deep fried smoked cow lungs. They're crispy and really tasty.

We occasionally buy the cow foot for bone soup. The first boil smells pretty bad, but it helps make a really good base.

I am by no means squeamish or faint of heart, but... WTF is wrong with people?
WHY eat a damn placenta? Vitamins? Take a farking vitamin! Eat some spinach... it's not complicated!

If you eat a placenta, that is straight up cannibalism, and not the ritual kind either... as though that is much better.
Just no. Don't. Go away freak!

And bad for you.
I'm pretty sure you just described everything that is deep fried.
I have almost every kitchen gadget there is, and the one thing I won't allow in my house? A deep fryer...

I like a local Navajo food called ach'íí.  It's sheep intestines wrapped around fat (I think you use the caul fat) and grilled over a fire.  You can get them pre-wrapped at my supermarket.

You'll want to eat it hot, so try to get invited when someone butchers a sheep.  Otherwise the fat congeals and it's kinda... chąą'.

To become Miss Navajo you have to show how well you can butcher a sheep.  Being able to wrap good ach'íí is on the list of traditional skills, but I dunno if it's required.

Clean the liver, heart, kidneys, and caul fat of a freshly dressed deer.

Chop all the organs, some tenderloin, some mushrooms, and some onion into bite sized pieces.

Place all the chopped bits in the caul fat, and add salt, pepper, coriander, worcestershire, minced garlic, and red wine.

Wrap it in a bundle, secure it with toothpicks or something like that, and cook it over a fire until the fat on the outside shrinks and is browned and crisp.

Serve with rehydrated mashed potatoes or pasta.
