That has been on and off the market for years.  In the early 00s there was a site that did various urban exploring things that broke into it.  The main silo was half flooded at the time.

A lot of tetanus waiting to happen.  And probably argon asphyxiation too.

The trick to buying a place like that is once you get the keys, lock yourself in and f*ck paying the mortgage.  Come and get me bankers!

"Hey, we've been seeing each other for a few weeks now.  Want to come spend the night at my place? It's completely underground. No windows, awesome sound insulation, a confusing and dangerous network of scaffolding and stairwells, and if I cut the power it will be completely 100% pitch black unless you know where I keep the IR goggles."

Actually, I think that's a deal for these, even outside of this crazy housing market. There's an insane amount of square footage inside, and the construction is solid on these.

Of course, you also really need to be able to spend serious money to actually fix it up, otherwise, it looks just like what we see here...

Jeez, you can at least load it up so someone can grab it when you are done with it and have five shots against the zombies.. way to be selfish there.

Can you imagine how much lead paint is down there?

Anyone want to quote the sandblasting/lead remediation...and throw in the cost to repaint? Maybe a few thousand gallons of POR15?

/pfft, no one wants to work anymore

Knowing that that place leaks or at least accumulates condensation made me twitch a little, not as much as someone who has to use one of those outlets though

Because those pictures looks ROUGH.

Given their location, with that much underground surface area, old and porous concrete, there's gonna be radon. Lots of radon.

A few people have retrofit them into houses:
https://www.dailyedge.ie/in-pictures-house-detached-with-nuclear-missile-silo-311880-Dec2011/

And there's one that's supposedly a luxury survivalist condo: https://www.wsj.com/articles/for-sale-renovated-luxury-condo-can-survive-nuclear-attack-1415575922
50/50 odds on that one being a complete investment scam, or if it's real, the cleaning and security staff murders everyone 5  minutes after the bombs fall.

I've heard various claims that you *don't* want an old missile silo in case of nuclear war, because supposedly Russia's antique missiles all have hard-coded targets and all our silos are on the list no matter how abandoned.

Eh, I don't think Russia still has 60 year-old 1st-gen ICBMs on their target list. They don't have enough warheads to justify that kind of expenditure.

If they're targeting Atlas, then they'd be targeting the now-defunct Nike SAM systems, decommissioned Minuteman I and II silos, and the defunct Safeguard system of ABMs.

Given the performance of Russia's weapons in Ukraine, they probably wouldn't have any warheads to spare trying to target our functioning weapons systems, much less the ones they know we've decommissioned.
