I hear there are a lot of seedboxes located in India. I wonder if they are next on the chopping block.

Companies offering virtual private network (VPN) or cloud services in India will be held liable if they do not comply with the government's cybersecurity policy, which mandates them to collect as well as maintain extensive and "accurate" data of their consumers for five years, an official familiar with the matter said.

Just don't offer the services IN India. Problem solved. It doesn't say "via" India, so if you don't sell to Indians in India you should be good to have a VPN go via India for your international customers.

Just the beginning. Two years away from China style total surveillance in Gilead.

It looks like you are using an adblocker!
You need to turn off the adblocker blah blah blah....

Nope. Privacy Badger stays.

Good thing is there are lots of countries, and you should go through a VPN that's in a country favourable to VPNs. That's really the entire point.

Who would be using a VPN service hosted in India as is? There are much better options, and if "no log" wasn't on your list of requirements for a private VPN, I highly question your need for a VPN in the first place.

They will at least make sure proper bribes are paid by the companies.

I guess if your VPN is in India during monsoon season you are boned.

Defending the rules, the government said the information will only be sought on a case-to-case basis, therefore not violating citizens' right to privacy.

That's an interesting idea.  I wonder if we could have it in the US.

What about non-Indians in India? Let's say I'm an American who uses a VPN when I travel internationally. Would my VPN have to cut me off if I'm connecting from India?

Lets hope this will make Indian tech support call centers less attractive to companies. Although, I'm not betting on it.

Just stop patronizing ANYTHING in India. They support Putin. You know, the guy that bombed a shopping mall with 1,000 people in it today?

If you or your company does business in India, you are a terrible terrible person.
