Republicans generally just lie, see the video of the same judges that took away a Constitutional right lying in the Senate or look at Lindsey saying an attempted coup is just fine with him as he voted against accountability for TFG. Lie, cheat and steal with violence is all republicans do.

Republicans lie about the things they tell you they aren't going to do; then goes and does them anyway, because fark you.

Democrats lie about the things they tell you they are going to do; then doesn't do them, because fark you.

They'd take away marriage equality tomorrow. I think they have to rile and lie a bit more before getting rid of contraception.

He's not the one who decides that. Clarance Thomas literally said they want to.

EvilEgg: They'd take away marriage equality tomorrow. I think they have to rile and lie a bit more before getting rid of contraception.

You fdo know the Supreme Court doesn't have to rely on votes to do that, right?  They can do it as soon as a case - any case - is put before them, no matter how bad it is on its merits.

2022-06-26 3:36:26 PM
"[Justice Alito] said nothing in this decision puts those cases at risk. The reason he decided that Roe v. Wade was wrongly decided is because it deals with the potential for life," he added. "These other privacy issues - like contraception - do not deal with the potential for life," Graham said.

Let's all pause for a moment and consider the absolute, profound stupidity in this statement:

Contraception does not deal with the potential for life.

Either he's too stupid to even understand what the words mean as they tumble out of his mouth, or he believes the people listening to him are too stupid to do so. But the only way these words exist together in meaningful context is through stupidity, either on the part of the speaker, the listener, or both.

Graham has no control over what Scotus does, so his opinion is worthless even before we remind ourselves that he is an habitual liar.

While that is true in the most legal sense, they do need at least some of the citizens behind them  I doubt they want a ruling so hated it is just ignored, that would be bad for everyone.

They have no mechanism of enforcement themselves, they have to rely on the other branches for that. If no AG is willing to prosecute, they make it unconstitutional all they want without anything changing.

The AGs of around half the states will be perfectly willing to prosecute any insane extremist BS this court decides.

At least as far as it applies to women and Black people, anyway.

All they would be saying is, "you don't have a legal right to contraception", not making it illegal.  Nothing for the AG to "enforce".  We'd go back to the days when your insurance - and sure as HELL the ACA is going away now - can decide not to pay for birth control, and the Catholic hospital you work for can choose a plan that doesn't cover it and won't stock it in their pharmacy.  What - did you think these decisions were about saying, "ARREST THAT WOMAN!  She takes birth control!" and the AG would have to prosecute?

If it's about only about life I guess we will start to see lawsuits forcing people to donate kidneys or blood? At the very least, every one gets their organs harvested after they die. Or, is it just that life is trumped by bodily autonomy in literally every place but a womb? Does having a uterus mean you have fewer rights than a corpse?

The court didn't decide what you're state's abortion law is going to be.  It decided that your state has the ability to legislate that, one way or the other.  If your state's AG decides not to enforce the law that your state legislature passed, then your state gets to decide who it agrees with and kick legislators or AGs out of office accordingly.

I actually agree that this case didn't put those other decisions at risk.

It DID tell us that they won't care how it looks when the next case comes along that does.

Luckily we don't live under one party rule like in '1984', and the infinitely-wise founders' three co-equal branches of government kept checks and balances on everything so everything that's happening isn't happening.

SCOTUS downplayed overturning Roe v Wade, remember that, Blanche? If there's anything we can count on, it's the disingenuous nature of the GOP and their rats in our courts.

Some Republicans are even talking about overturning interracial marriage. Maybe get on that, huh Blanche?

It's pretty disturbing that a politician would suggest they have any say in what SCOTUS will or won't do, just on general principles. SCOTUS is supposed to be independent of that sort of thing.

Yes, and he gets away with it because there are 9 of them and people don't read into these individuals' details.  You can often look at decisions and move on.  But almost every time you stop and dig in on Alito, it just becomes more clear how truly incompetent he is.  They all have their identifiable traits but Alito's "thing" when he does an interview or public speaking event is to sound like he has trouble with his brain, before he even gets to his job.
