Americans don't need a passport to get to the No. 1 global city to take a working vacation.

Yeah, but I am going to need a reason way the fluck better than "Kansas City" to consider what the fluck a working vacation is and why to take it there.

Was a good observation, more fountains than paris.
But I misspelled.
Travesty, like that time I used an excavator to find Noah's gold....
Clip?
No clip?
Ok...well, hey I spent it.

Just did a working vacation in Sydney. Might have been okay but a large part of my job involves meetings and conversations, which essentially meant I was 3rd shift.

Moved here three weeks ago and already the BolloxReader Bump is paying off handsomely for the city.

I'm considering bids for my next residency, by the way. Have your local downtown development board contact me for submission requirements. I can't guarantee specific results but this trend line is looking good.

Stay out of North Topeka and da soufeeeeet siide! Unless you want your cat stolen or shot during a random drive-by. And don't go to any street named after a dead president or a state.

However, Stephen King took inspiration for The Dark Tower from THS' bell tower, and Charlie the Choo-choo from the mini-train at Gage Park.

They also just revamped downtown for concerts, movies-on-the-lawn, a buttload of lighted fountains, and did tax breaks for concept restaurants. But I moved just slightly before all that got established and opened.

Union Station is beautiful. It's worth having some overpriced drinks in the bar there. Is there anything else worth seeing in Kansas City? I've been there about a dozen times, and that was the only thing that really stood out.

I don't believe it. But to be fair I've never been there and cannot verify these highly dubious results

I had a free afternoon there after a work trip. Visited the museum for the Steamboat Arabia. I thought that was nice. https://www.1856.com/

There are better Cities in the Midwest to visit if you're planning a trip somewhere though.

Lived there for ten long years in the mid-80s and mid-90s and no.   Just no.   A group of religious nuts bought a suburb, Grandview.   Blacks that go west of Troost are detained and sent back to the other side of town.

The local selling points:   people eat tons of beef, more miles of boulevards than Paris, more fountains than Rome.  Yes, these are actual selling points.   It does have a sunny four-season climate and two major sports.   Well, one major and one sometimes major sport.

WWI Museum
Negro Leagues Baseball Museum
Power & Light District
18th and Vine (Jazz)
Plaza
Nelson Atkins Art Museum
Kaufman Center (Fine Arts)

Those are the biggest non-sports attractions.  They also have the T-Mobile Center for concerts/sports.

I grew up there. When I go back to visit, I go to Loose Park and see the rose garden, spend time at the Nelson-Atkins Museum, have lunch at Andre's just south of the Plaza, drive up Ward Parkway and over on into Mission just for a pretty drive, then find some good tacos in KCK.

I usually hit a couple other parks, the Union Memorial, then drive southeast to see how things have changed out in the boonies where I lived for awhile as a child. Oh, also drive Blue River Road, stop and go down to the water for awhile. And also Cliff Drive, though sometimes that's in great shape and sometimes it's been saddened.

I used to always go to Scimeca's on Independence Ave, but it moved up north, and I've never really done "up north."

There are a lot of little things to do and see all over the place, though a lot has changed since I moved away in 1994. I came to Cincinnati in 2011, and it is so ugly by comparison, yet over the past few years has developed an excellent restaurant culture. It's highly worth coming here for a few days just to eat (and go to the symphony if in season,) but I wish it was prettier.

Just hit the Nelson-Atkins and the zoo a week ago. St. Louis zoo is bigger, but KC zoo is better. Better aesthetic, plus the sky safari is awesome.

KC was in the recent past, and may still be, the number one city in the world for fountains. More fountains than even Rome. Some are really magnificent, too.

The Pendergast Machine owned a cement company, and pushed a lot of lucrative cement projects.

I grew up in kc. I moved away for a while, including Los Angeles. When I moved back I had to go a building 15 miles away and I was shocked that took me less than 20 minutes to get there. KC probably leads the nation in overbuilt highways. KCK also leads the nation in "safe drivers" which I'm sure is calculated by accidents per highway lane/mile. Lots of miles - and uncrowdedness means fewer accidents.

And another thing. A rabid fan base for sports teams means there's really not much else to do in town. Go, Chiefs!

This doesn't surprise me, well, at least pre-pandemic where you went to the office and on business trips on these things called 'planes'.

KCMO and frankly and any larger city with a decent hub or flagship airport in the Midwest should get you to either LA or NYC in great time.

Cost of living (no brainer)

Side note, I miss the alamo draft house there :(

The Nelson art museum is conspicuously good. It's another gorgeous old limestone neoclassical, and you pay what you want. They've probably the finest collection of Chinese art outside of China, but it's certainly not a museum of Chinese art. There are several other pieces in pretty much every college art history textbook.

Then get some ribs.

I could see it. I had a co-worker from there a while back and she told about about all these roadtrips they were taking. When I started looking at the distances it's basically medium-far drive a ton of stuff.
