Normally I'm outraged by these stories, especially because I couldn't get a PPP loan when my side hustle contract job ended (turns out the banks were not interested in lower value loans, only ones above $20K).

Imma let this one slide. The man had time on his hands, an old car, and maybe he thought fixing it up counted as a job.

Just kidding! It was clearly fraud. But it was fraud for a GOOD reason.

He's a cop. That's what those funds are for. If anything the guy deserves more money.

Huh. I was guessing it had to do with hoarding Helium.

No guesses as to make/model/year?

Is that the hood-latch assembly on the center of the firewall? Are we to assume factory reverse-opening hood?

I was curious about that as well, since it didn't look particularly classic.

Bit of digging pulled up this:

"His arrest came two years after he was named Law Enforcement Officer of the Year in 2020 by Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody. Carter, a detective, was honored at a Human Trafficking Summit that Moody organized"

"In 2021, Carter received Evelyn D. Williams Memorial Award. The honor recognized Carter's tenacity during a January 2020 operation that saw him work over 150 hours in a two-week period in support of Super Bowl human trafficking operations.
The operation led to the rescue of four children who were being trafficked and three federal arrests. An ensuing investigation located victims across eight states and included 80 victims between the ages of 10 to 14, authorities said."

Multiple sources reported the story, but they all just regurgitated verbatim the indictment. Even local news didn't bother going to talk to him

They should have waited until he was finished restoring the car before busting hum. Would have been worth enough to cover the loan he'll never be able to repay.

The U.S. Department of Justice has accused a Florida cop of using a covid relief loan to restore his classic car. Now, we've seen this sort of thing before with just your average Joe or even some business owners. But seeing a police officer accused of doing something so dumb and easily traceable is a new one for us.

You know what's f*cked up?

Stacey Abrams recently tweeted that we need to pay cops more.

I really have little hope for this country.

Speaking of COVID relief (sort of), the state of Oregon just cut me a check for $600 because I'm poor. Well, specifically it's because I qualified for EITC on my taxes last year, but it is being paid out from federal pandemic funds, so, thanks, Oregon (and the feds, I guess)! Every bit helps.

As in mid to late 70's vette? Kinda what I was thinking. That and the unibody with attachments for fiberglass......

Meanwhile, TFG is still free as a bird.

An overweight, constipated seagull, but a bird, nevertheless.
