So much chirping in June from Yankee fans. The 2018 team peaked at 50-22 and wound up getting stomped by Boston in the divisional round.

You'd think fans of a team that obsesses over its history would remember that and not double down on a team peaking early - especially with a cupcake early schedule

But no. And there's Boone, resting LeMahieu today but letting Joey Gallo get more action.

I sure do hope the Yankees fall apart down the stretch

I wouldn't call it a cupcake early schedule. Yes, the Astros are probably the toughest team they've faced so far, but nearly half of their games have been against teams over .500, against which they now have a record of 23-11.

The only other teams right now with winning records against winning teams are:
Astros (12-8)
Mets (25-17)
Braves (18-15)
Brewers (23-18)
Dodgers (24-13)
Padres (24-14)
Giants (19-17)

Thursday night the Yankees scored four runs in the bottom of the ninth to beat the Astros 7-6. Since then in the Friday and now Saturday games against the Astros, they've scored a total of one run.

\Would be very interesting to see what happens on Sunday.

Which was also a combined no hitter and one of the weirdest games I can ever remember watching.

I think there's like 3 guys left from that debacle. Hell, Marwin Gonzalez is on the Yankees. The manager and GM are gone. Don't take it out on the whole team.

I was a big fan of Justin Verlander when he was with the Tigers. And I'm still a fan of his now that he's with the Astros. So I was very pleased for him that he finally got a World Series ring with the Astros. But the cheating debacle - and his subsequent silence about it - has definitely tarnished my fandom feelings for the man.

\Still glad he beat the Yankees on Friday.

Riiiiizzooooo...yeah he does that a lot. I'm glad he's with the best club in baseball. when the Cubs played the Yankees in mid-June, the radio guys said that Rizzo is one of only...three? I think? players on the team with a WS ring. pretty mind-blowing, considering.

14 different teams have been to the WS since the Yankees last made an appearance, 3 of them thrice (HOU, LAD, SF) and 4 of them twice (BOS, KC, STL, TEX).

..so unless you are a fan of the Twins, who are 0-18 in playoff games since they last beat the Yankees in Game 1 of the 2004 ALDS, or the Mariners who have only ever seen the World Series on TV, chances are your team has seen more playoff success than the Yankees in the past decade+.

I know, I know, but it's not just the Yankee drought (for them anyway) but that Rizzo's ring is with the Cubs. in the context of the teams' histories it's kinda weird that both are happening at the same time.

or maybe I'm just easily mindblown. I suppose having a tiny mind helps with that.

Anthony Rizzo (Cubs)
Aroldis Chapman (Cubs)
Marwin Gonzalez (Astros)

You're not wrong, but your omitting a in important fact: The Twins were absolutely destroyed by injury in every matchup.

Hell, we didn't know for years that Mauer played through a compound concussion in 2006.
