They want their slaves back. They've been throwing a tantrum over losing them for 150+ years now, and are determined to replace them with whomever they can bully or bribe into the role: wage slaves, or reproductive slaves, or dead-eyed, disinformation-slurping foot soldier slaves who do their dirty work, etc.

They want power.  Untrammeled, unopposed, unlimited power.  Power to enslave people.  Power to rape.  Power to amass enormous amounts of wealth while people starve around them, so that they can see that and know their power means they don't starve.  They want to be on top of everyone.

Power.  That's it.  That's all of it.  Everything else flows from that.

It's not a coincidence that the lead up to the overturning of Roe has been preceded by Right Wing ideologues like Tucker Carlson talking about "white replacement theory." A motivating factor in all of this is a persistent fear that white supremacy is in danger.

Of course this is what we're doing.  Can't lose any credibility on this side by blaming white supremacy. Voters, sure, but not credibility on the left.

I'd encourage subby and this guy to look at polling on abortion, by race, in this country and beyond.  Not to mention that 7 white guys gave you Roe and a group that included a black guy and a woman took it away.

Life is more complicated than this clickbait.  And this has more to do with religion than race.

Look he's not wrong. But he's missing a very important piece of the puzzle. Just like the actual Nazis the demonization of left wing movements and vulnerable people in society was just a means to an end for them. The Nazis invented the conspiracies out of whole cloth. The Nazi leaders didn't actually believe any of it because they knew they made it up. All the race baiting, CRT bullshiat, playing up to racist white grievances and the religious right is not the goal but *part of the plan*. Don't fall into that trap. I know everyone likes to say it's all about just abject cruelty and 'stigginit to the libruls' but this is all a meticulous plan decades in the making. There is a goal and endgame to all this and Josh Hawley let the cat out of the bag. This is their plan and how they're going to take over.

What it boils down to is that they've seen that Fascism gets stuff done. Not for long, because they sort of lost the thread on that, but they're convinced that things will work out differently this time. Because this time, it's not going to be a German American Bund, it will be a totally native brand of fascism. One with a catchy name, and a flag that will make the White Power Motherf*ckers happy when they see it, because to them, that means that they can beat the sh*t out of anyone who pisses them off.

The thing is though, the leadership doesn't really care about that. What they see is the chance to snag a lot of power, and set up a system that keeps them on top, and the racist and the Religious Right, they're just tools to get a lock on keeping power for themselves. And what's interesting is that you have folks of several colors who all imagine that they are going to be exempt, because they're 'the good ones.' Which, in history, has NEVER really worked out all that well. In the end, a Judas Goat still winds up in the curry, they're just the last ones chopped up. And from the perspective of those who want to see this fascist revival, it's not that they hate folks of color, they just don't want to share power, and they can't hold onto power and share and have examples of 'good ones' and 'bad ones' around, before someone makes the connection that they're being used. Tokens may be shown, but they won't represent anyone. They'll be essentially show ponies. As much as women will be, because they don't believe that women have anything to contribute, and if they can't contribute, why share a table with them?

And the thing is, it's all given a lot more oomph, because the folks who've paid attention KNOW that even WITH a bump in white birth rates, white folks are still going to comprise less than 50% of this country by the end of the decade. Something that few people have really talked about, because no one wanted to inspire these White Power Motherf*ckers to scream LOUDER. The thing is, the leadership knows it, and the idea is beginning to sink into the rank and file's heads. Only, 'Replacement theory' isn't an ebbil conspiracy, it's just math.

And math is the bugbear. Education in general is the one thing that these authoritarians fear, because while they can change a narrative, they can only suppress facts. And putting a huge band aid of "nuh uh" isn't going to make the math go away. They can only hope to corrupt enough folks to buy into a power structure that keeps white folks on top. It goes beyond that though: knowledge in general is their enemy. Knowledge of history, of science, of literature, of theology, sociology, psychology, even climatology, it all points towards very inconvenient facts that illustrate how sticking your head in the sand to avoid problems by pretending that they don't exist. It's why they want to dismantle public education. Not just to train up a new generation of proles, but to keep their own from learning too much, and getting...ideas. Ideas and knowledge are the bane of this sort of authoritarian rule, and by winnowing the pool of the educated, they put themselves in a terrible box that only has so many folks to think of solutions, and with the training to think only in terms of hammers and nails.

And he's right, this is the fight. A last gasp of fearful white folks who can't stand the idea of sharing the halls of power. Who hate that math and history itself is working against their grandest dreams. And in all honesty, I underestimated the amount of vitriol that this minority that is buying this crap that they're being sold, and the apathy of those who might tangentially benefit for a bit before their kids are indoctrinated into compliance.

We are going to have some ugly years ahead of us. But, the thing is, while they might hate science and math, that doesn't change the facts. White folks WILL fall under 50% by the end of this decade. It may take a decent struggle to get these Methuselahs out of power. Pry them from their homes in the Hamptons. Out of the halls of power. But the literal numbers are against them. The question is how much damage can they cause before their own loose and willful misinterpretation of history falls apart?

I read the whole thing, I only disagree with his take on reindustrialization. He sees it as a complete negative that will result in child labor, but I think that's easily the weakest of his arguments in the thread. We've offloaded so much of our capability to produce in-country that our supply chain isn't reliable anymore. Rebuilding some of our manufacturing capacity here has the possibility (operative word) of getting some of the working poor back into the middle class. A skilled trade workforce is a net benefit for a country. Even better, trade work lends itself towards unionization. The largest reason unions have been dying in the private sector is because the industries they had the highest representation in disappeared.

He seems to think that reindustrialization is just going to be recreating sewing shops from the early 1900's. There might be some of that - I have a friend who works at a cardboard box manufacturing facility and their work rules are draconian even though he's part of a union - but overall making things in the US is good for the US. Formerly industrial areas lost their means to support themselves and the knowledge economy didn't move in because it wasn't needed. Gary, Indiana doesn't need a university. It does need jobs for people who didn't go to college.

I know this is fark, but over 60% of the country doesn't have a college degree. Those people need something better to do than work as a WalMart cashier.

It's very much in line with the late stages of the Confederacy, where once "states rights" (insert huge jerking off motion here) bought them separation from the Union, certain elements proceeded to discard it in the name of fascism/authoritarianism that was aiming for world dominance.

This was all obvious during Bush W. George's administration, and there is nothing surorising or unexplained in the public eye. I ahve so many books on my shelves about it, written in those 8 years, that I kind of want to jut shiat on that tweeter's face for a few hours, for even typing all that instead of citing the truth, that he need only remind people of the writers who told us 20 years ago. David Harvey, Iris Marion young, Nancy Fraser, Susan Hawthorne, berll hooks, and so many magazines like Briarpatch and This! and Harper's. And of course, the NYT where the architects of the neoconservative century literally told us they were doing it, what their progress was, what they thought was lowing their plan, etc, in real time. This tweeter is farking late to the party but typing like he is breathless because he figured out some great momentous facts...jesus, it's not okay and not fair to act like any of this is younger than 15 years old and rehashed over and over and over again right in plain sight.

The offloading is onto other people's children, though. The manufacturers will patraite the American workforce standards, which is child labour and women stuffed into sweat houses in exurban Free Trade Zones.

So what we really need to do is bicker about how progressive the party needs to be instead of concentrating on defeating the fascist party that's destroying what little progress you made.

At least that's what smart, angry reasonable people would want that don't actually want authoritarianism, instead of weak-willed cowards that would just rather watch America suffer as long as it doesn't affect their lily white lives.

I am always amazed, as a late 50's white male, at how in the hell Republicans have managed any support among women and minorities. I realize marriage and the hammering in Christian marriage beliefs of women being subservient to men is part of why women fall in line.
However, guess what Texas Hispanics, South Florida Cubans, and the crossovers to the Republican party from African Americans? Old white males in power will gladly take your support in keeping themselves in power. Don't let the shallow niceties fool you though. You are nothing more than a means to an end. You are chattel. If the old white guard could, this country would be white as newfallen snow. If you are a minority, you have been hoodwinked. Good God wake the hell up

We already went from a society where one earner could support a family to a society where every family needs two earners. One specifically to pay the rent.
The Republican dream is both parents and multiple children will be needed to support a family.
