If the red states population declines, then they're going to wind up with less representatives and electors.

For some reason they don't seem to grasp that fact.

They get that point perfectly. They already have that and it gives them massive advantages because of the way Congress and the Electoral College apportion votes.

On the other hand, the point you don't seem to get is that roughly 1/3rd of Republican voters nationwide live in California. And many of them would be quite happy to move to more conservative areas where they could increase conservative representation in our federal government.

as long as they get two Senators it doesn't matter

There are a whole lot more Americans who want legal abortions than illegal ones, and right now the number of forced birth states is 17 vs 33 free states.

The states with trigger laws and pre-roe bans aren't worth fighting for.  You will never get the votes to overcome those existing barriers. Concentrating the population who want freedom for all in the remaining states is a critical numerical advantage.  Get population in there right now to make sure they don't flip.

Stop buying products from forced birth states if you can possibly help it, don't visit them or drive through them, don't pay their taxes or prop up their regime with your labor.  Starve them of workers, customers, taxpayers and tourists.

jbc: Or we get 5 or 6 million Democrats to move to Texas before this November.

Take those 5 million and spread them across the west, and you could have a hammer lock on the Senate, Governor's Houses and even state legislatures for  for a decade.  Take North Dokota for example.  Trump won by 30 points, but add 150,000 blue voters and the state flips the other way and you pick up 2 senators.  Same thing for S. Dakota and Wyoming.  125K would flip Montana and just  50K would turn Alaska solid blue. 250K apiece and you bag Nebraska and Idaho too.

so with less than 1/3rd or one percent of the poulation of the US relocating, about 1 million voters all tolled, and you could pick up & governor's mansions and 14 senate seats,  If one of the Dem-leaning billionaires wants to do some real good he could fund "affordable housing initiatives"  to convince people to move and allow them to WFH with his company.

But there's only 17 of those states right now vs 33 on our side.

A lot of these trigger laws were written and passed decades ago when Roe was a new law, you'd be surprised how many survived based purely on inertia because it wasn't a pressing issue with abortion access considered a constitutional guarantee. I'm willing to bet you could get at least a few states to flip by running state senators on a platform to overturn them.

I don't think it's so easy for most people, D or R, to just up and move based on politics. I am a super-liberal guy, I live in Ohio, I am upper-middle-income, and there is no way in hell I can just up and move. I love the "I'm staying, fark you" attitude, and I will try to internalize it. But regardless, I'm just here. It's my home.

I wonder if Hawley is so financially elite and disconnected that he thinks everybody is just a 1%er "citizen of the world" like he is and can relocate as needed. I mean, he's barely a farkin' Missourian himself.

And remember, because of the filibuster, it only takes 41 Senators to put the kibosh on almost everything. That's 20 states + another member from a purple one.

You're going to have to ditch your phone, car, TV, MRI machines, and you'll have to give up certain ingredients of the mRNA Covid vaccine.

Until then you're going to need to cough up billions and billions to build a semicon fab somewhere else besides Texas. Then you're going to have to tell the German based company that helps make the vaccine ingredient in Germany to abandon their semicon fab aspirations in the states that give extreme tax breaks. That's not even counting the Koreans that own the fabs.

What does your state build? Don't get me wrong I am leaving TX as soon as I can but it will be 8 years until I am able. Probably the country. This isn't SimCity or whatever. It's uh...a little more complex than that.

It will be interesting to see the emails at work on Monday. My company is European based and very progressive. Texas, not so much. Their HQ is in a city that is considered a science and art mecca so I am starting to make plans to get over there. Until now people are coming here en masse for many reasons, but the trend line will be altered for sure. Will have to check it out in a year and see how this ruling altered the influx of people moving to TX.

But of course they have not yet! Because reasons! Certainly not because California is lovely, especially if you're a stick in the mud but you also sort of like having an active government protect you as well.

I'm getting increasingly pissed off, as it's not just the electoral college, but also the Senate, that Hawley would be making an excellent case for why they're obsolete if he wasn't cheering it on. I get the feeling a lot of Republicans are going to start showing their true colors openly that they don't represent the people of the US but just their side.

Josh Hawley is a moron -- guess what happened after the Civil War? Most of the Underground Railroad refugees moved back - not only to the US, but to their ancestral homes in The South, where their roots and family were

If that can happen then, under those circumstances, then abortion rights aren't going to make liberals scattered like cockroaches -- no, they're going to fight you.

/and, as a side note, if 25% of the red states get emptied, then they lose both House representation, and eventually the number of EC votes any state receives....the only place his calculus works is in the Senate.

Starting to wish that Antifa truly was the organization that exists in the paranoid delusions of the right, that they were an organized well armed revolutionary group. This nation is just become more and more a cesspool since 2016, and I just do not want to live in these united states, I want those stupid f**s to secede already, forcibly if need be (just kick their asses out once and for all and let them enjoy their capital Mara Lago)

I don't think you know how the USA system works then.

Smaller, population size, states are over represented.

So with purple states becoming red, through people moving, then that's a shift in voting power for the GOP even though the amount of voters remain the same.

Like, if all Democrats lived in California, they'd have very little power, even with 60% of the population.

2022-06-25 6:35:10 AM
And farking lawyer Hawley lays out clearly yet another reason that even if roe was built on shaky reasoning it should not have met the burden to stare decisis.
