I wonder if they aren't rejoicing at this gift from SCOTUS.  A rallying issue for campaigns and funds.

If they can just manage to keep the voters fired up and inspired to go to the polls.  They couldn't do it in 16 or really 18, but 20 was a good turnout.

I'm just not hopeful.

It's a lie that Congress is Democrat-controlled. We have the House, but Democrats don't control the Senate; Independents frequently caucus with the Democrats to reach a tie, at which point a vice president can cast a deciding vote.

What do we replace the Dems with, Weavs?

This would be an operable threat if there were options other than (D) or (R).  It's a bit too late to primary most of them for the midterms.

I'm surprised you could type that, what with your tongue so far up Coalfinger's tailings pit.  I mean, they had two months to come up with a plan, and their plan was to do what?  Oh I see, from the article it seems their plan was let SCOTUS throw Roe out and then sing God Bless America afterwards.  Have I got that right?

I mean I might as well give my money to a wino down by the river because at least the wino will put it back into the local economy by buying a bottle at the local corner store.  Giving money to the DCCC just means that they'll buy ads from Google or Facebook or some evil cable company... and don't forget about buying airtime on stations owned by Sinclair Media.

Yeah I stopped reading in your first sentence. Incidentally for anyone wondering why you can't convince Republicans to stop being idiots, this is why. Once someone is so convinced they are right and have been conned by right-wing bullshiat--and even if you call them out on it with clear facts--thry will continue anyway and double down, adding in some name-calling on top.

Vote to make things better, or riot if we have to, but don't let perfection be the enemy of good.

I'm willing to fight, but I have to work 40 hours a week and don't have the ass-kissing skills to get campaign donations or the knowledge of what the fark to do to run a successful campaign, and do you think the Democratic Party is gonna lift a farking finger for me when my Rep is now the longest-serving woman in Congress?  shiat they'd probably hold a grudge forever should I dare run against her.

I'm sorry, are you calling me a Republican?  Or are you saying I've been conned by right-wing bullshit?

You can fuck right off if the answer to either or both of those questions is "yes".

I'm a rational person who makes informed decisions on the basis of evidence, and after much careful evaluation, my current conclusion is that the vast majority of the Democratic Party is worthless.  Also, the vast majority of the Republican Party is stupid, evil, corrupt, and utterly without morals or ethics.  That's why they keep winning at shit, because they know the rules do not apply to them and proceed to do whatever the fuck they want while the Democratic Party is too busy trying to react to and clean up after the GQP and/or otherwise maintain the high road and call out the hypocrisy.

The GQP are bullies and there's no teacher or parent or police or anyone else to stop them from bullying more and more.  The only way it's gonna stop is if the Democrats stop running away from them and stop crying when they get the snot beat out of them and actually start punching back and fighting dirty.  Yeah, it's gonna suck to compromise the morals and ethics and standing but maybe, just maybe, some of the GQP assholes have an epiphany where they realize what they're doing, or maybe they get their asses kicked and go crawl back under their rocks for 20 years, or everyone else sitting on their asses pretending to see nothing actually get off their asses and decide they have to stop the bullying.

I mean I have no perfect answers on what to do, but you're the one who wants to maintain the status quo and boy that sure worked well for us today.  mmmhmm yup.

You're seriously gonna tell me Pelosi is wise and knows how to get things done?  If she's so wise and capable, why couldn't she figure out how to twist the arms of Manchin and Sinema?  If she has no leverage on them, then she's not wise and capable.  Also Biden kinda sucks and I long for Angry Obama.  Please could I have motherfucking Angry Obama kicking doors open?  I wanna see an Angry Obama slap the shit-eating grin right off the fucking Turtle's face.

Also they should, but will fail to, sell this in part as "one justice per circuit court" and make it 13 justices.

Which is what it frankly should be, 12 circuits and the Federal Circuit/FISA/etc catch all.

this would be a situation where an actual left-wing party would be coordinating with unions to mobilize demonstrations and work stoppages and prep for a real strike, because that's how you apply political pressure when you have a popular majority

- reuben (SFF brain worms edition) (@liesandperfidy) June 24, 2022

the Democrats, however, are the left flank of capital, and to do such a thing would be unthinkable. you can think of them as a controlled opposition if you want - i think they're a capitalist party with genuine disagreements with the other one, but it works out the same

- reuben (SFF brain worms edition) (@liesandperfidy) June 24, 2022

i'm not trying to be a doomer, i just think it's important to understand that the things that can actually affect change here are things that the Democratic Party is constitutionally incapable of doing. they can't meet these moments because that's not what they're for.

But you should give us money, so we can fight back regarding your right to an abortion.  In spite of the fact that we've had multiple opportunities to codify it, and refused.

Republicans spent 50 years building a legal edifice to deliver this victory and when they got their shot, they took it.  Can you even imagine?

Oh this is easy.

A full summer of tear gassing in various US cities in 2020 and Biden's response is "more
funding for police."

Or his lack of action on student loans.

How about a speech on abortion which only mentions abortion what, twice? Maybe?

All the money to Ukraine but what about funding for mental health and housing in the US?

Low hanging fruit.

This is why we can't have nice things, someone who doesn't understand how the government works. The House did pass such a Bill the Senate tried and failed. The Democrats don't need just a majority to codify Roe v Wade, they need a supermajority to break the Republican filibuster, or at least 2 more seats to Chang the rules.

Biden's fine... I mean, relatively speaking

The problem is with Democrat's governance which is just like... Party leadership has yet to internalize this hard-right turn that republicans have made like, thirty years ago, and they're still playing the political game with the rule book from way back then. So, unsurprisingly, nothing's getting done, and any time something DOES get done, it's right-wing policy.
