(NASA)   Psyche mission to the eponymous metal asteroid can't make its 2022 launch window due to software problems. Space is hard. Good software engineering is harder   (nasa.gov) divider line

As a software engineer...

Oh the names I want to call both Nasa and their contractor. For fark's sake, we've been doing celestial navigation for how long now? Yes the math is hard. But who the fark did they hire? And how the hell is a full testing suite going to take 90 days to run?

(Oh I think I know the answer and it generally involves having an intern write the damn test suite, and they turn in all of the bells and whistles, and decide to run a complete universe simulator instead of regression testing the actual behaviors. Because regression testing requires that you know how the farking thing would behave in the first place...)
