Kuta: KangTheMad: Why don't you guys just block Kuta? Do you really think you're going to convince a brick wall to turn into a picket fence?

Kang can't handle the cognitive dissonance.  It sucks, but Russia is winning this war slowly, steadily, lethally right now.

This was not unexpected.

This was always going to be the case.

At what cost?

U.S reporters need to be on the front lines so America can see the horrors of war every night on the news. Maybe that would expedite a solution.

Being an EU membership prospect, if I understand correctly, will do nothing to help fight the Russian invasion.  Instead, it will encourage political and economic reforms in whatever remains of the country so that it will be easier to rebuild with foreign investment/assistance afterwards.

So it's not really something that's going to worry Putin though it might annoy him.

Difficulty: Both sides are white, neither side is Muslim, and half the American political machine is on the side of the invaders.

I think for the most part you'd just turn it into another sport to choose teams and cheer for.

Ukraine aid links

A month and a half into the war (day 44), many of us felt helpless and listless at not being able to do more to help, so I started a list of things that we can do.

There are plenty of charities that could use your help, but even if you don't have spare cash lying about, there are still things you can do so keep reading

You can donate directly to Ukraine if you want to help them make more videos of tanks blowing up. (See 'military aid' below)

There are lots of humanitarian groups working to feed the displaced people and even their pets.  (See 'humanitarian aid')

And even if you're not in a position to give cash, you might be able to find a group that needs some volunteer help or attend a protest.  If you don't have a group in your area specifically helping Ukraine, you can likely still find other worthwhile causes.  And there are groups that have tasks that can be done online or over the phone without even leaving your home. (See 'other notes'). Even just calling politicians to remind them that we need to support Ukrainians.

You could even just call out dumbasses online who are spreading russian propaganda and otherwise spewing toxic crap.  And by ignoring or blocking the assholes on here who try that shiat.

And you can even support capitalism, and buy stuff made in Ukraine or are fundraisers for the war effort.  (See 'buying stuff')

This is in no way a comprehensive list.  This is just groups that Farkers have mentioned in past threads.  If you want a more comprehensive list, see https://supportukrainenow.org . They also have links to specific groups by country that you're coming from for protests, taking in refugees, etc.  You might also find interesting charities at https://www.reddit.com/r/ukraine/comments/tgc00n/want_to_support_ukraine_heres_a_list_of_charities/

If you're currently employed by a large-ish company, they may have a donation matching program.  You can check https://doublethedonation.com/but it's also worth contacting your HR to ask even if they're not listed there.

If you want to fund reporting of the war:  https://www.gofundme.com/f/kyivindependent-launch;  https://www.patreon.com/kyivindependent

If you can't donate money, but have free time and the health to do it, consider volunteering your time to groups to help them free up money to spend in the Ukraine.

You can search Charity Navigator ( https://www.charitynavigator.org ) or GuideStar (https://www.guidestar.org/NonprofitDirectory.aspx) for terms like Ukraine, and look find a group near you that needs extra hands.  If you can't find a Ukraine specific one, pick another one with a mission that you support.

If you want to donate drones, medical supplies and such:  https://www.mriyaaid.org/aid

If you want to have a supper club or bake sale fundraiser and would like recipes:  https://www.cookforukraine.org

There are even ways to contribute online, for the home bound people:

Shadows Project (Survey for what cultural stuff they should put online, and an Instagram page of Ukrainian art):  https://beacons.page/shadows.project

Ukrainian Global University needs volunteers to talk educational institutions into helping displaced students:  https://uglobal.university/

Learn about Ukrainian History (and raise funds):  https://youtube.com/watch?v=tl070rPB58M

If you're a US citizen, call your congress critters and let them know how you feel:  (202) 224-3121.  Or if you want to sponsor refugees:  https://ukraine.welcome.us.  But you may want to try to find an NGO, as if you directly sponsor them you're financially responsible for two years.  (So tell your representatives to give them refugee status)

If you would like to avoid doing business with companies still operating in russia, seehttps://www.dontfundwar.com

If you use streaming music services, search for Ukrainian artist playlists, so you'll give them a fraction of a penny and maybe find some new artists to support more directly.

If you watch cam sites, consider supporting Ukrainians (although some may currently be displaced, others may tag Ukraine to show support because they're from neighboring countries, and some of the most in need of support may not currently have internet access; I don't have any sort of definitive list)

There are also efforts to DDoS Russian websites, but I'm not linking to them to avoid risking the mods removing this whole list.

Also see the official Ukrainian website on ways to support their effort:  https://war.ukraine.ua/support-ukraine/

The navy of Ukraine isn't the largest but it definitely exists, with a strength of about 15.000 men.

Although in these days of missiles and airplanes, you do not need a navy to sink ships.

No need. It's all available. Call your local cable, streaming, over the air networks to start airing footage.

One way may be to have a TV event (remember those?) Air "Winter On Fire". Follow it up with interviews with mother's escorting their daughters out of the cities with state issued AK's strapped to their back. End it with the huge influence and presence of Ukrainian people and culture in the US. I know that everything is a la carte these days but there are millions who tune into Dancing With the Stars every night. Many people schedule this time and if something else pops up chances are they will sit and watch. The Day After and Testament forever altered this countries perception of nuclear war in just 3.5 hours or so. It can be done.

Or maybe Leelo can offer to strip on live TV for votes and donations.

I don't want to be a thoughtless asshole here (even though the description usually fits), but for those of you who live in leaky old houses like I do might want to start thinking now about sealing leaks and adding insulation.

Even if the war is over by the winter, Russia and Ukraine are going to take some time to rebuild their extraction capability, so prices are going to continue to stay stupid.

Many energy companies will do 'energy audits' (often for free), where they attach a fan to one of your doors, then suck the air out of your house so they can walk around and figure out where air leaks are.

Oh... and as I used expanding foam for the first time in years: DO NOT try to clean it up shortly after spraying it.  If you break the skin, it will puff even bigger.  (And possibly screw up the bubble size making it less effective as insulation ... but also risk dripping and that stuff sucks to clean up)

I too learned this the hard way and had to chip it all out and start over. Now I have two perfectly ugly, round puffies in my little bathroom where there was a gap in the floor molding.

Aim, quick squirt once for a very short period of time... a little goes a long way.

Operational information from the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine as of 06.00 23.06.2022. In readiness for the use of missile weapons in the Black Sea there are five carriers of sea-based cruise missiles of the Kalibr type (total salvo - up to 40 missiles).

In the Kharkiv direction, enemy units focus on preventing the Defense Forces from entering the rear of the occupation forces grouping operating in the Slavic direction. The enemy was air reconnaissance in the areas of the settlements of Bayrak and Rubizhne.

The enemy is trying to create conditions for the resumption of the offensive in the directions of Izyum - Barvinkove and Izyum - Slovyansk. The invaders plan to use heavy flamethrower systems in the Slavic direction.

In the Donetsk direction, the enemy focuses the main efforts on establishing full control over the city of Severodonetsk, conducting offensive actions to encircle our troops near the city of Lysychansk and blocking the main logistics routes.

In the Severodonetsk direction, the enemy captured the settlements of Loskutivka, Rai-Oleksandrivka.

In the Mykolaiv direction, the enemy deployed artillery units in certain areas. In the future, attempts to conduct assault actions in the directions of Kiselivka - Posad-Pokrovske and Oleksandrivka - Luparev in order to enter the administrative borders of the Kherson region are not excluded.

Ships of the Black Sea Fleet in the Waters of the Black and Azov Seas continue to perform tasks to isolate the area of hostilities and conduct reconnaissance. The aggressor continues to block civilian shipping in the northwestern part of the Black Sea.

stay *realistic*

If you look at OPEC, they're making long term plans to keep prices up by restricting supply because they know electrification is coming, and they're scrambling BILLIONS of dollars to diversify their economies away from oil, and oil money is going to make it happen.

The days of cheap petroleum are gone.  We'll probably also see another fracking boom as prices make domestic extraction profitable again, but 80% world reserves are in the hands of OPEC. Meaning the price of gas is theirs to control no matter how many pipelines or greasy sand pits we dig up in Canada.

This was announced to Forbes by the head of one of the Kyiv restaurants on condition of anonymity. We are waiting for official confirmation of the information.

Unsung_Hero: Hooferatheart: U.S reporters need to be on the front lines so America can see the horrors of war every night on the news. Maybe that would expedite a solution.

Difficulty: Both sides are white, neither side is Muslim, and half the American political machine is on the side of the invaders.

I think for the most part you'd just turn it into another sport to choose teams and cheer for.

US has shown bipartisan support for Ukraine.  I ain't voting for anyone that's Soft On Russia.

Russians being Russians not even on the front line:

AN-30 aircraft being used for internal cargo (this one doesn't have a standard registration so could be military related) crash lands because it ran out of fuel 70km from its destination airport.

Even though this airframe was built in 1978, these Antonovs were built in Ukraine and are essentially not replaceable. https://aviation-safety.net/database/record.php?id=20220622-0

Polish Hussar: When you drink too much even by Russian standards.  How many handles of vodak per day would that entail?
