I've got a friend with covid.  Shortness of breath, horrible body aches, throat on fire, etc.  She got it at a 100 person work meeting.  She's pretty miserable but is starting to feel better.  It's not over yet.

Feel you.

My rage is only buttressed with someone else know were here trying.
That will still kill you.

Sounds like the flu. Which isn't over either. And never will be. Just like COVID.

What would you have society do at this point?

The flu doesn't cause cognitive or physical impairment. For those of us who have to work for a living and/or have kids who have to, you know, grow up, that's kinda important.

And the more times you've had it, the worse it is for you: https://twitter.com/yaneerbaryam/status/1539023303330906114. So you do you and get reinfected as much as you want. (Having had it before won't protect you from omicron. In fact it makes your immune response worse: https://twitter.com/RajeevJayadevan/status/1536765030854668288) I'll keep trying to not risk my health, wealth, and wisdom.

This Stockholm Syndrome-like attitude and denial about SARS-CoV-2 is probably going to continue to cost us dearly for years and years.

I hate to say it, but the damn virus failed to kill TFG and that failure really made everything a lot worse.

Overcoming by ignoring?

Whistle past the graveyard.

My social circles are 3 for 3 on "went on a trip, got the Rona" so far this year.

From what it sounded like, the only reason it didn't kill him was he literally had the best medical treatment in the world. And even then it was touch and go.

\the doctors who treated him should have their licenses revoked for signing his NDA

I prefer the Michigan winter beer festival.  It covers the whole state and goes from January 1st to December 31 except for maybe a week in July.

You live in America...it never stopped being unacceptable to come to work sick.   Time off of any kind is for those socialist European hellhole countries.

I hate to break it to you all, but I live in Michigan and I've been holding beer fests every season, even during the pandemic quarantine. Especially during quarantine. Generally nobody else has attended. But I persevere.

I live in the same county as the festival and this week is the first time in a couple of months that the Covid infection rate has gone down. And the festival takes place outdoors, which reduces the chance of infection.

\I'm not going BTW. Don't care for beer all that much.

I've had him farkied as *stupid asshole* since long before COVID.

My partner just got over her first bout with it. Vaxxed and boosted at my urging, and grateful for it. I've had it twice that I know of (first time unvaxxed long before we had a vaccine, second vaxxed and boosted; The first time was sheer hell and I know I almost didn't make it. The second time sucked pretty bad, too, but was much less agony.) Dad had it once and didn't make it because he wasn't vaxxed and voted Republican.

Well, that last bit is just speculation.

And yeah, all of us in Michigan.

So it's not over. It's just that alcoholics and the Dutch won't be denied their "Let's get drunk and go out on the lake!" festival in this state.

Also, Beer Festival is not to be confused with Frankenmuth's Oktoberfest, which is also basically a beer festival. But the food is better and it's much more fun to be loudly insulted by Bavarians than it is to be puked on by the Dutch.

That being said, this is at least outdoors and it doesn't look too crowded. It might be less risky than, say, going to work in an office.

I can't really find any pics of what it's like inside the tents, but most of the (100+) breweries are inside those two gigantic tents (no sidewalls, at least), with zero space between them, and dense lines to each one that almost never subside.

It's a pretty cool event. Which absolutely should not be happening.

And every time you get it your risk of long term consequences go up.

Wear your mask!

And note that the fact that the risk of long term consequences going up means it's probably doing damage every time, just not always enough to be noticeable.

I thought the latest trend now is that more people are getting infected, but fewer are getting sick and/or dying because of the vaccine.
