"I was just excited. I couldn't believe it," said Darryl Surita, a man who bought over 100 gallons. "I posted a video on my Instagram because I felt like, well I have a lot of followers, so I might as well post it and let everybody enjoy it."

More likely because you're a complete asshole and I can only hope I one day get to laugh at your loss.

Seems they changed the gofundme to benefit the guy that got fired instead and are offering refunds to people who already donated if they're not ok with that.

That story is lacking many, probably important, details.

It it's a faux news channel so no surprise there.

Then the farking media shows up and interviews the asshole pumping gas into a 200 gallon tank and nobody tells the clerks to shut off the pumps.  Everyone involved was a pack of assholes.  "Someone's gonna get fired but I got mine!"

If you want off the world go for it but don't for a second think you're important enough to take anyone else with you.

If they forget to scan my 12 pack of soda and I don't notice that until after I leave... I kinda laugh and take it.

If I notice a f*ck up like this, I walk inside and say... "Hey, something is wrong here dude."

There's a difference between a small mistake and something that can get someone fired.

Don't be like that Instagram asshole.

So some guy not only profits off someones mistake but encourages others to do it costing the company $20k and the employee his job. Arcadian thinks the person who screwed over the employee and station deserves to suffer the same kind of loss and you think that makes him an asshole?

I think you need to apply that filter to your own profile.

Of course the company won't take the money.  It is illegal to make an employee pay the employer for losses incurred while performing an action that is a normal part of their job.  If that was legal nobody would ever risk taking a job as a forklift driver or any other job that involved handling expensive materials.

It is impossible for the gas station to prove that they didn't bully him into it.  So if they took the money they would be required to give it all back, give him his job back, and pay a huge fine on top. In fact the employee could sue for wrongful termination at this point since it would fall under retaliation but that probably wouldn't be worth the investment needed.

Exactly.  They're not going to accept the money because of legal reasons and they're certainly not going to rehire someone that fat-fingered away $20k.  That mistake should have resulted in a couple of lucky drivers getting a cheap tank and then the pumps getting shut down.

No you didn't. You did it for the "likes", the clout, and extra publicity and to hell with any consequences. Which is why you also put it on Twitter, FB, and a few private boards (and public boards).

...and were all too happy to try and get the local news stations' attention for your footage.

Just call it for what it is dude.

This story is full of assholes.
1. Rewrite the code so that the price entered has to be verified by reentering the price for verification. Ordering a sandwich has more safeguards than Shell's software.
2. Firing a guy for this is stupid. See 1 above. They probably have 75 tasks this poor guy has to complete every day, while simultaneously filling in for all the idiots that don't show up for their minimum wage jobs. He's tired, he's overworked, and he made a mistake. A mistake that could be corrected with a couple lines of code.
3. Customers stealing them blind. Whatever happened to people doing the right thing?

2022-06-23 9:28:06 AM
Well, maybe if they hadn't been price-gouging at $6.99 a gallon in the first place, this wouldn't have happened.

Honestly, if any gas station owner wants me to feel sorry for them right now, they can go suck lunch out of a wildebeest's asshole. And yes, I know they don't make as much from gas as they do snacks, drinks, and smokes, but let's not pretend that part of the high price of gas isn't station owners slapping an extra percentage on top of everything because right now they think they can get away with it.

Right now, with my job and livelihood being threatened by the end-price of gas, I have zero sympathy for anyone who owns a gas station if they get screwed financially. Z E R O.

OPEC and the American cartels can also go f#ck themselves.

I'm guessing the station already filed an insurance claim or something and don't want to
bother with the "hassle" or some such crap.  You'd think they would be happy to have the
money, but I guess taxes and what not they just wrote it off as a business loss.

It's not the gas stations.  I've managed a handful, some small and some large chain and the profit margin is around 12c per gallon. And if you don't sell a lot of other items in store that doesn't even pay for the credit card system use at the pumps.
