Ah? Ok? You do realize Charles comes first, right?

When my dad turned 40 his staff gave him a dozen "black" roses.  I doubt William will be gifted anything like almost as much the possibility of his obviously staid personality crashing a sports car.

Pretty sure that was the reason for the divorce in the first place.

The craziest thing about how things are going there - well, one of the crazy things...  William should be King right now.

But for whatever reason his grandmother lives on.  So even her 73 year old son isn't King yet.

Charles should have been king before his 60's. and he should have shuffled off to make way for William at least before he turned 40.

At this point it really looks like she is going to live so long that William's son will be the next King.

That's only if Lizzy doesn't stay alive just long enough to spite him into an early grace.

Also, Price William has aged like ... a 1985 Yugo in a Boston snowstorm. Oof.

Hey now.

Wait...

OK, that's fair.

When I was at Oxford, I was woken up one morning by women screaming. I opened my door and asked, "What the hell is going?" One of the women squealed, "He's 18! Prince William is LEGAL!" I slowly closed my door and went back to bed.

Chuckie has been a crack up on the freeway his entire life, however not William.  Princess Diana raised a far better future king than Queen Besty!

Tough break for those who bet that he would be bald by now.  Looks like he managed to skate by on a technicality.

They're going to have to marry a few more generations of hotties to weed the ugly genes out of the Royal family line, though.

According to my wife, William went from being the heartthrob in a romance novel, to being the author of a romance novel.

// my wife thinks William looks "distinguished"... but if he weren't the future King, he'd be pulling pints and lonely

Hey, Harry isn't quite so ugly. Though I suppose if they only share their mother's genes you should expect them to look fairly different...

Who cares? If I were British I'd resent even having a Royal Family. And I don't want to hear about the tourism dollars they bring in. Tourists go to look at the buildings and fark with those guards. An actual living inbred family isn't required.

The average life expectancy in the US / Canada / UK is 78-82.

I've been having a mid-life crisis every two years since I was 12.

Given that you don't know the end date, it seemed a sound policy.

I think it's more of a state of mind than the literal median life expectancy.

All I know is that there are a LOT of random 40-year-old women posting nudes on Reddit. Millennials are hitting their mid-life crisis stage and throwing caution to the wind in very pleasing ways. I don't recall anywhere near as many Gen Xers doing the same thing a decade ago. Our generation's a bit more modest, apparently. Most of us just bought boats or signed up for a spin class or went rock climbing or jumped out of a plane or something.

But Millennials? Nope. They already did that stuff in their 30s, so for them the exciting thing is getting naked before gravity attacks and metabolism retreats.

'Can't say I don't approve. I like women, and it's certainly a touch more comfortable for me to check out nude 40-year-olds than it is for me to check out nude 19-year-olds. I won't balk at either (if you're old enough to die for your country, you're old enough to strip for your income or pleasure), but one definitely gets a cockeyed look from society these days, while the other is more socially acceptable.

Ooh, yes, a has-been in a Midsomer Murders story. The penultimate suspect before the real killer, his estranged step-brother, is revealed.

I more or less agree with you.
Especially after watching the entirety of "The Crown."  Everything about the Royal Family in essence is supposed to be them, propped up in front of all, as the greatness that the people should aspire to achieve but will never ever be able to.

But everything about that is a lie.  They go to incredible lengths to maintain that lie.  And everyone knows it.  It's not even a well kept secret anymore.

In short, they themselves do not live up to what the Crown proports to be.

So, yeah, what purpose do they serve?

Now, having said that, I think the Diana's children are the closest thing to what Royal integrity is supposed to be that we have ever seen.  For that matter, Prince Phillip was actually probably one of the best Royals ever, because he was one of the only ones that actually lived up to what they say they are.  And, HE, just like Diana, was an outsider.

In short...  The most Royal of the Royals are not directly from that family line, or never were in that family line.
Which also says a lot about their worth.

Why do you think QE2 has lived so long?  She doesn't want her ldiot son to be king.

So, on this day 40 years ago, I was somewhere off the coast of California in an attack submarine.  We didn't know about the birth until we got back to San Diego.

"The Crown" is historical fiction. Are you seriously basing your opinion on a Netflix soap?

What, do you think I'm 5 years old?  Of course not.

However...  I was alive during a whole helluva lot of the things portrayed in that show.  And though much of it is exaggerated or dramatized, an awful lot of it was pretty spot on.  And I've done the research, at least as far as with the fact checkers, to see where the inaccuracies are.

And with all of that, I am pretty well comfortable with my opinion on the matter.

2022-06-22 8:22:32 AM
Also, one of my main points there was about Harry and William being better than the rest of the Royals because they were raised by their mother.
That is something that was not really featured in the show, because they were really young.

My opinion about that is purely from my own mind, watching them grow up.  They are way younger than I am.
