The thought of a Trump candidacy even without indictments should terrify Republicans. He is, after all, one of the worst Americans ever. He's already made it clear that he'd be even worse if ever re-elected.

It bothers me that many Republicans appear ready to ignore that.

The first trump term scared me, a second one terrifies me.

DeSantis while evil, is at least rational  He would probably destroy democracy also, but at least he wouldn't start a nuclear war along the way.

I say the Dems just saturate the media with him and his garbage just to remind people why he was voted out in the first place.

Pssst....both assholes have the same puppet masters pulling the same strings.

Nixon conceded in office after being re-elected.

What the hell...

Let him testify and then get elected and still go to federal prison!

mistahtom: Pssst....both assholes have the same puppet masters pulling the same strings.

Yes, but one puppet has elastic bands for strings and randomly bounces all over the place.

Trump is unstable, and that's more disruptive to the world than evil.  The puppet masters want control, but they also want what they're controlling to continue producing wealth for them.

I'm surprised the ultra wealthy haven't turned on Trump, given how much damage he did last time around.  Maybe they're shorting the US and feel like it hasn't gone low enough yet.

Naaaaaaaah. I'll pass. The american people are dumb enough to elect him a second time. I'd much rather he be somewhere nice and safely unable to run. Prison or dead of a three Big Mac heart attack seem like good options.

Save the gallows for election night.

He's currently calling for war among his followers, reading between the lines.

If his phones aren't tapped like a brown skinned, big nosed tourist taking flying lessons with no interest in landing, I would be ... Well, not surprised.

It is almost as if the supreme court, half of Congress, half of the senate, and the DOJ is on his side.

He ought to be ineligible to run.  "It would make our investigation partisan, and we must remain impartial".

I wonder if Clarence Thomas will turn himself into a Virginia court for incarceration over his miscegenation felony.

2022-06-18 4:53:47 PM
Why? We've already established that Trump's strategy of just ignoring scandals and crimes works astonished well.

Like, ffs, when this guy ran for president in 2016, he'd stolen money from his cancer cancer charity to bribe an AG to stop an investigation into his fraudulent university. He was fined $2,000 and nobody cared nobody.

This makes no sense.

To the Trump cult, a democrat DOJ has no authority or power.  Anything it says or does can be spellcast away with the magic words "fake news", witch hunt", "deep state", and a few more.

Okay, this is fantasy, not reality, but I would die laughing if Garland came on national TV two hours before Dumpy announces his run and lays out the charges against him.

If their goal is any GOPer (but mostly DeSantis) as president, they can play Trump off stage in such a fashion as to make DeSantis look better by comparison all across the board with complete lies about his past and actions.

What they are doing is ridiculously simple, spend 3.2 years slamming the media with Trump, everyone builds an intolerance and disgust and then the last 0.8 years throw down DeSantis as the primary winner through some party manipulation.

You'll have Trump (who losing the 2024 primary should no longer be in the news at all) plus DeSantis attacking Biden and the media will cover it.

They are going to double team Biden.

Exactly. This article is baeed on the idea that Trump voters have enough shame to be turned off by the bad stuff Trump does. Which... lol

Once he officially declares, the DOJ will consider him off-limits since they don't want to risk being yelled at by the GOP.  It's pathetic, but it's what will likely happen.

What? Donald JOHN Trump won't be in jail before 2024?

I try not to complain too much. Merrick Garland definitely has a monster job.

BUT HURRY THE fark.

If Garland doesn't do it soon, it's never getting done.  If he decides it's not worth doing, once the midterms come around, good luck getting a replacement approved by a GOP-controlled Senate during the back half of Biden's term.

So for the first time we could have a President who passes away while in office, while in prison.

Eh.  That's really not the problem.

2022-06-18 5:11:47 PM
The 2024 Republican primary will consist of candidates outdoing each other with how many Capitol rioters they will pardon. At least some of them will promise to pardon anyone who commits violence to get them elected.

That could be avoided if Biden announces he will not run for re-election. Then there's no real conflict of interest.

When he decides being a candidate is the better option for staying out of jail, he'll flip.  Plus ego gets involved.  And revenge fantasies.  He's not 100% money-driven, that just appears to be his tool for satisfying ego and vengeance.

Trump running for President while facing criminal charges will probably help him.

He'll get tons of free air time, and his supporters will only be MORE motivated.  His face will be on every screen, every second of the day, and no one will be talking about issues, or policies, or competing candidates.  Just Trump, Trump, Trump, Trump, constantly.  Sure, it will be negative coverage, but coverage of Trump has been negative for the last 6 years.  It hasn't mattered, and pretty much everyone has already made up their mind about January 6.  It's not like there is some huge pocket of undecided voters who are somehow so ignorant of current events and blind to news coverage that they don't already know what happened on January 6, but who WILL see the same coverage they've been ignoring for 1.5 years when it's going on this winter.

This is how it works for Trump.  I don't understand how people haven't figured this out yet.

Multitasking is as Republican skills.  In addition to running, fighting criminal charges, TFG would monetize by also be raking in proceeds from merc sales, paid appearances, and charging the Secret Service rent.

No. Much easier to grift if you're a candidate, because so much of the grift is in the campaign donations.

Would be more accurate to say, "easier to grift if you are a candidate who loses than a candidate who wins," which I'm pretty sure is what Trump was hoping for the first time around.
