I hate hearing the financial thing excuse - family member y'all.

Yeah I understand dire circumstances, but a lot of these are easy-way lameass bailouts.

After my most recent pet adoption and the way they treated me like an inconvenience and a probable animal abuser... I'm torn between 'save the animals' and 'fark the shelter staff'.

So tempting, but I have never had a pet while I lived alone. I think they need more company than that.

Two dogs or two cats are tempting, but still.

I get it that shelters want to make sure the animal is going to a good home and all, but some of them make you jump through so many hoops it turns off potential adopters.

At one place I went to they handed me a release form to allow a full background check that would include employment history, financials, etc. Fark that.

Hopefully they're asking what political organizations people belong to before they adopt out these pets!

When we adopted my cat, the shelter would not even allow you to interact with the animals.  You could see them through glass and that was it.  Adoptions were cash only, but required a background check.  They also lied about the cat being in good health.  It took us over a year of twice monthly vet visits to get her chronic ear infections from mites under control.

Worth it?  Yea, best cat I have ever known.  But it is enough that we have not gone back to adopt a friend.

Funny how states so lacking in empathy that they consistently vote red also consistently have shelters that are overflowing.

I remember, back in the day, laboratories and research centers would take in unwanted pets and strays. There was a big awareness campaign about making sure your free kittens and puppies weren't going to some testing facility.

Is that still a thing?
