He's probably lying. However....

If he's not lying and has any self-preservation, he probably would want to get tested for phenylketonuria. People who have phenylketonuria and consume foods high in phenylalanine -- like the aspartame used to sweeten Diet Coke as he claims to have been drinking -- can exhibit symptoms similar to alcohol intoxication. While phenylketonuria is usually genetic, it's barely possible he has gone undiagnosed for many years, or has somehow environmentally developed an adult phenylalanine hydroxylase deficiency.

While I am not a doctor, this possibility leads me to think he would be wise to check with one.

No see, he was *snorting* diet coke

And this is why you can't trust the lying media, getting wrong once again

Alcoholics never lie about their drinking.

OK that is a good point, but hear me out... what if we just let that f*cker die?

Psst - Rudy....."I was drunk" is probably a better excuse than "I am stupid."

Weird how nobody gives a rat's arse and he still feels the need to lie about it. Republican habits die hard.

When my hair melts and starts running down the side of my head, that's when I'm drunk.  When I can't control the farts, that's when I'm drunk.  When I put on a dress and walk through Macy's, that's when I'm Saturday afternoon and feeling special.

Saying you were that incompetent sober isn't the great argument you think it is.

It was Diet Coke and unaltered. The man is just an extreme lightweight.

Sonofabiatch, it linked the wrong picture of a "cola". They're actually partnering with Coke.

Makes me nostalgic for the days where a politician being drunk would have been the most salacious and damaging story in the media...

I've been pretty drunk before, but never so drunk that there was a congressional hearing to determine how drunk I was.

Rudi.  If anyone has a reason to drink, it's you.  TFG hitch his little  Rudi pony to his wagon a long time ago.  Other than turning state or federal witness, you're gonna be in that harness until TFG doesn't find you useful anymore.

Drink up, Rudi.  That phone is going to ring soon.

Kind of like Gul Ducat after the Founders took over Cardassia.  But you simply lack the, what do the Cardassians call it?  Oh yeah.  Personality.

remember when he farted covid on that other coo-coo for cocoa puffs lady during testimony?

Or the four seasons press conference?

Headsweating Kiwi brand shoe polish?

The Borat thing?

Man.  What's a guy gotta do?

And I'm sure he didn't tip any of the bartenders so they'll be real inclined to not tell the press about the 6 double whiskey cokes he had before the polls even closed.

IT WAS DIET COKE! YOU CAN'T PROVE ANYTHING! I PLEAD THE FIFTH DIMENSION!

Just admit you were drinking. It's an even worse look if everyone thinks you're drunk and you're not.

He looks like a garden variety "great uncle from Ohio that we never visit anymore due to the incident".

I am an alcoholic in recovery.  We know our own.  This guy is a drunk and blames everyone for his shortcomings.

So his defense is that he was actually 100% sober when he suggested ending democracy in the US?

More likely, Jack & Coke & coke.

Yeah, what's the problem.  He's an adult, he was in no official position of authority with the campaign, and his boss was losing and he knew it spelled bad things for him.

Why is this a news story?  It would be notable if Rudy was sober at some point, but drunk is his state of regular being.

I mean... he has to live with being Rudy Giuliani.

That would drive anyone to drink.

2022-06-14 12:00:47 PM
Rudy?  The lawyer disbarred for lying so often and prolifically in court that a judge and the bar association banninated him?  Do most people and members of congress know how bad you have to be for that to happen?
He is now an established liar so he needs to be interrogated under oath and prosecuted for perjury and any crimes he is stupid enough to confess to.

Interesting hypothesis, but I'm calling off this zebra hunt. It's a plain old horse, and it probably has cirrhotic liver tissue

I was also drinking Diet Coke that whole night. It did have a lot of Makers Mark in it as well of course

Drunk Rudy probably gives marginally better advice.

Yes. You toss a pickle chip at his forehead.

If he dodges it, he's drunk. If it sticks, he's drunk.

If he's awake? Drunk. Asleep? Potentially sober depending how long it's been.

My husband's alcoholic mother used to drink Tab because she was obese and thought it would help her lose weight. After drinking about half the can, she would top it off with cheap whiskey and drink that. She would keep refilling that same can all day long. She always claimed she was just drinking Tab.

Note the weasel words "has any self-preservation, he probably would want" in the comment I made.
However, more patriotic Americans might prefer that he merely die.

jook: Interesting hypothesis, but I'm calling off this zebra hunt. It's a plain old horse, and it probably has cirrhotic liver tissue

That's the more likely "he's not lying" branch... in which case, he still might want to see a doctor.
However, more patriotic Americans might again prefer that he merely die.

BeansNfranks: How does this impact anything?

Is giving legal advice while drunk to the point of mental incompetence considered any more unprofessional than anything else he may have done?
