The only decent ones were missing limbs and Doc I think was probably a lot like Joe for a lot of things (besides the possibility of murder for hire) like basically running a sex cult of brainwashed women. Joe just couldn't afford to keep a Harlem of young boys.

Pretty much

That's clearly her actual goal. She knows it's eventually going to be banned so why not her and get others to pay donate to her animal hoarding and at a massive tax benefit.

I'm starting to think that exploiting criminal activity or personal tragedy for reality TV isn't a particularly good approach for entertainment.

If you are on a reality show and you're not a paid actor then you are, by default, a terrible person.

And yes, many of them are, in fact, paid actors.  Watching TV with grandma a long time ago I sat through two reality shows in a row.  One guy appeared in an episode about home renovation as a handyman and then, in the very next show, he was an assistant to a bounty hunter or something along those lines.  Didn't even dye his hair or try to hide it, either, but at least he was getting a paycheck (better ye - two paychecks) out of it... which I can kind of respect... at least more than anyone stupid enough to do it for free.

To be fair, I could see someone working as both a bounty hunter and a handyman. Both are irregular jobs that you only get called for when necessary.

It is always good to remember it's possible for everyone in a story to be awful.

I remember an actor/comic that used to talk about how to make ends meet he'd do parts on Jerry Springer type talk shows (including Jerry's).  Wasn't a big name and the name I have forgotten, but got big enough to do interviews and talked about it.

Every time I see the expression "a Harlem of young boys" I start wondering -

How many young boys is a Harlem?  I mean, is it the number of young boys who live in Harlem? Or is it the whole population of Harlem, but we're assuming every one of them is a young boy?  Or is it the total number of young boys you could physically place into Harlem? Or is it some other number, like maybe just 125 for the 125th St. Station?  Or maybe....

You know what, I don't want to know the real answer. It's like hearing two opera ladies singing in Italian, it's probably best if you never know...

I have a zoo owner (entire family) in my corner of NJ. He's a MAGA GOP state assemblyman that just announced he's not running again and his wife is now looking to become a county commissioner. I would love for Netflix to do a documentary on them as I'm confident it's just as potentially exciting as Tiger King.

2022-06-06 12:24:55 PM
Also, a lot of folks inside the zoological community can tell you that "Dr." Bhagavan Antle is neither a "doctor" of any kind, nor is his actual first name even "Bhagavan".

He is just plain, old Kevin Antle.
Only thing I have to give him props for is that he found unique way to more snu-snu than most ordinary men are able to without having to pay the going market rates. Even with keeping them in separate houses, I bet he's saving money in the long run. :P

I'm pretty sure pointing out how vile these people are was the point of the show. Wasn't the subtitle "Murder and Mayhem?"
I doubt the feds would be involved if this hadn't been a hit on netflix and raised these assholes' profiles.

She & her family are literally working very day for it to be banned & has for a decade, which is why she gets death threats from grifters like Joe & his ilk. BigCatAct.com will show you legislation she's helped craft & support to ban the ownership of big cats in the US. There's literally a documentary about her doing this.

As far as animal hoarding, even the smallest cat at Big Cat Rescue has as much square footage as my house. They're extremely well fed & cared for, so hoarding can hardly apply. You can literally watch several of them 24/7 on live cameras to see them in their large enclosures w/ their private ponds, including several who are still recovering from the physical & mental scars their previous owners inflicted.
She & her husband haven't taken a salary in 2 years.
Carole's a real scumbag, huh?

2022-06-06 1:21:55 PM
As I always do when big cat ownership is brought up here, I remind everyone that cub petting is abuse & that if you're paying to get anywhere near a big cat cub you are bankrolling their abuse & that of their mothers. When they're no longer small, they're either chopped up & sold for parts or sold for a canned trophy hunt, probably in Texas. You won't see a 'cub rejected by its mother' b/c you paid an entrance fee. You're shown a cub torn from its mother within hours of its birth that's starved to remain small & compliant for photos. Its mother will likely have been bred twice a year most of its life & will die young b/c of the illnesses that follow speed breeding & infectious mastitis from having no cubs to nurse.
Never touch a big cat of any age if it's alive & conscious. Never. You may as well hold Joe Exotic's shotgun to their heads for him (this time).

Yes and you are one of the suckers that actually believe she's doing it to be "the good guy" when her private zoo sanctuary is setup to be just as exploitable as Joe's. I mean fark, they both had a someone get their arm eaten by a tiger (and I'm not talking about her husband) by using staff that has no business being around the big cats.

They all three are running cults of personality to own big cats. One just does it with better marks.

I watched exactly one episode of Tiger King when it came out (the very first show). I made it about 15 minutes before I realized it was not something I wanted to spend any more time on. But within that short window, they were interviewing somebody and he said something to the effect of "all the various animal rescue people are a little nuts, whether they're rescuing birds or monkeys or horses, they're all a bit crazy. But the people that are in the big cat rescue business? They are a breed of crazy entirely unto themselves".

I think the show and all the things that have come out after it show that to be painfully true.

/helped out a horse rescue lady a few times and finally had to just quit because she was so farking insane about things

Marcos P: Big cats should stay in the wild.

Unfortunately, the wild is becoming increasingly dangerous for them, with poaching, deforestation, urban sprawl and habitat fragmentation, trophy hunting, and growing human populations. I'd take all the remaining Amur leopards and Sumatran tigers into well-run breeding centers if I could, until their home range could be made a bit safer.

2022-06-06 2:29:33 PM
Carole Baskin was the least bad person on that show, so it's especially amusing that she was bagged on the most in the aftermath. The "killed her husband" line was Trump-level distraction-diversion from the guy who was actually caught doing illegal things.

2022-06-06 2:30:28 PM
I've watched Big Cat Rescue videos for years.  They take in animals from zoos, other rescues, and private owners who got in over their heads.  They love their cats and do their best by them.  The main reason they oppose private ownership is because 9 times out of 10, the cats suffer for it.

I know the Scumbag Man vs. Scumbag Woman made for a good pitch, but they're not the same.  Carole is working for the benefit of the cats.  Joe is just an asshole.
